Three

Jordan Knight wished he could have stayed and spoken to her after the lecture, but the task at hand was too pressing and he was already late. When he reached the hotspot two miles off campus, he checked that no one was watching and unfurled his silver wings. They weren't as stiff as they would normally be, because of the infinitesimal stretch they had after his lecture.

Jordan didn't know why he unfurled them then, he was hoping Jade would see them and know he was to be trusted. But now he wasn't sure she'd noticed at all. He was quite plain, in all honesty. He knew he helped her though, when their gazes collided on their way to their lectures.

When he arrived in the Arrival Hall, he sprinted straight towards Judge John Hillcrest's office. He could see the silhouette of the judge through the tinted glass walls and didn't bother the man by knocking before he entered.

"Jordan Knight." Was the judge's simple greeting as Jordan closed the heavy door behind him. "What is the news on the First to Fall?"

This was what they called Jade here. The First to Fall. She was the first angel to suffer through the barbarism of the Tearing. Jordan hated that Judge Hillcrest didn't refer to his own daughter by name. Nevertheless, the man was powerful and not to be trifled with.

"The First to Fall is still suffering the Darkness and I believe she will never recover." Jordan lied. He knew, even from their brief encounters today, that the Darkness would leave Jade in peace before long.

Judge Hillcrest stood from his seat behind his desk and nodded. "Good. Stay on earth three months longer to ensure that she stays that way."

Jordan nodded and departed, wondering to himself why he was ordered to stay on earth. Even for an angel who still had wings, living on earth was depressing.

~**~

Jordan made sure no one was looking before he unfurled his silver wings for the third time that day. It was possibly the stress from having to report, or maybe the unwanted anticipation of seeing Jade tomorrow. He didn't know exactly why, but he need to stretch his wings, push them through their physical limits and feel the rush he savoured like something precious he only received very scarcely.

He needed to fly.

He soared from his balcony on his large apartment and let out an exhilarated yell as he dove and dipped through the freezing December air. Flying always made him feel like this; like his worries were pushed to the farthest recesses of his mind by the wind in his face and he'd never have to concern himself with them again.

But then he would land, and the feeling would fade. He'd be left with the bleak reality that his life could not be lived in the sky and his mind must return to actuality.

The same thing happened tonight, as Jordan flew, and the same thing happened as he landed. But this time, when he returned to his bedroom to sleep, his thoughts of the next day felt brighter and full of Jade Hillcrest.

I hope you like chapter two! Two updates in one day is pretty good for me, so appreciate it! Haha, anyway, hope you enjoyed the chapter!
