Nine
The feeling of the wind rushing through his hair almost brought tears to Jordan's eyes. He knew he was never again going to feel the exhilaration and joy that came with soaring above cities and mountains and seas. He couldn't return home.
He couldn't fly. He was grounded. "Are you okay?" Jade asked him.
"Yeah," He assured her, "I'm fine."
The rest of the journey was made in silence and before long they'd reached New York City. Jordan knew exactly where he was going, however he was unsure as to how welcome he and Jade would be.
He parked the car outside a large apartment building and he and Jade headed up to the seventh floor, where Jordan knocked on the door of number three hundred and sixty four.
The door was opened by a woman with long brown hair, big blue eyes and a frown. "Jordan!" She exclaimed, "It's after midnight!"
"I'm sorry, Lela." Jordan apologised, "But I wouldn't be here at all if it wasn't urgent."
Lela sighed and stepped back from the door, holding it open. "I suppose you'd better come in then."
Jordan was thankful that she hadn't refused to see them, but he was still worried that she wouldn't help them. Lela was the only person he could think of that could possibly help them.
"What do you need?" Lela asked, sitting on a large black sofa.
"Well, Jade and I want to start a rebellion against the officials in Heaven. But we have no idea where we can find followers. I know you've been avoiding the Torn, but I thought that you might know where some of them are." Jordan explained nervously.
Lela looked over at Jade, surveying her with interest. "So this is the First to Fall, is it?" She asked. Jade nodded and Lela smirked, "I'd have thought she'd be a little more vocal. Have a bit more of an opinion-"
"Are you going to help us or not?" Jade demanded, cutting Lela off midsentence. Lela stared at her for a moment before she sighed.
"I suppose so. As you said, Jordan I've been avoiding the Torn for years. But it's because of that, not in spite of it, that I know where most of them are." She explained.
"Thank you." Said Jade.
"Well, there are three in this very city, but you're going to need to go somewhere first." Lela said. "There's a Torn who can train you to fight and defend yourselves. Go to him and ask him to teach you."
"Why do we have to know how to fight?" Jade asked, confused.
"You think you're starting a rebellion. You're really starting a war." Lela explained.
Jordan nodded, "So where is this Torn?"
Lela bit her lip, "Do you both have valid passports?"
"Where is he, Lela?" He demanded.
"Australia."
"Australia?" Jade exclaimed, "How on earth do you expect us to get to Australia and back?"
Lela rolled her eyes. "On a plane."
