I'm sorry guys it's taken a minute on this fic I kinda forgot since I was writing Some season 23 fics and co authoring another one. (Now two!) But I thought I'd finish this one more part but i won't, there will be one more at least. Enjoy. This one is super long for making up for forgetting this fic.
Rafael woke up the next morning sore and irritated. Olivia was sleeping on the small chair next to him with a blanket over her. Besides being shot in the back twice, Rafael was ready for the trial he was supposed to be at today. He heard from Olivia that Hannah Winters was picking up his case and it would be resumed in a few days. She was a amazing ADA, who had been studying his cases for years and was still working in the Manhattan DA's office doing her own cases now and called in when necessary. Hannah had even won the case against the man who attacked Rafael in his apartment two years ago. He often wondered how even Hannah bore sitting the bench with him while he was wheelchair bound and had his dominant hand in a cast. He was a moody and sick man during that time but Hannah never quit learning from him.
It was a crazy idea for Rafael to take a future senator to trial on rape and child pornography chargers. Politics are a dangerous game. What was nerve wracking to Rafael was he wasn't the target: his wife was. As much pain his body was in, for he was used to far worse, the most painful thing in his world would to lose his wife. Olivia was safe under his watchful eye, yet he couldn't do anything about it if anyone tried to hurt her. He was glad Olivia has fallen asleep after being up all night watching over him.
His mom and kids were safe but it was still on his mind was who was involved in this and all right before his daughter's first birthday. He was trying to hold onto the memories of that day and all the information he was using to prepare for trial. He missed Blythe and Noah so much but they were safer away from their parents right now. Right now he was going to put that aside and rest. Perhaps he could FaceTime with his mother and kids later.
Meanwhile back at SVU, Amanda, Sonny, Fin and Kat were digging into this case as quickly and efficiently as possible. Even ADA Hannah Winters had come over to help whatever information she could get from Rafael's office.
"Senator David McCoulan was arrested last week on the charges of child porn, soliciting photos of a minor. He was caught slipping roofies to underage girls who were being trafficked at a party." Carisi said as he put the photos up on the whiteboard. "His wife claims that he was with her that night."
"What's the issue then?" Hannah said.
"Well the problem is these parties are done in the dark. Literally in the dark so out victim Emma Harlem didn't see anything. We're trying to get her to come in and do a voice recognition." Kat replied.
"Here's what I actually need you to do. For one find more witnesses. If he's done it to one girl, he'll do it to another. Two, you gotta connect the shooting back to McCoulan." Hannah replied.
"I got an idea. There's supposed to be another party tomorrow night. You know the when and where. I'll get you an arrest warrant. Just be careful, super careful. These guys are dangerous." Hannah said. "Politics
"We'll be safe Hannah. We're gonna think of something we can do." Fin replied.
"Liv just texted saying Barba's awake and feeling up to us asking questions." Carisi said. "She also needs a break right now from the hospital."
"We'll take her some food then. Hannah do you wanna come with Carisi and I?" Amanda said.
"Sure." She replied.
The small team of three picked up lunch and met Olivia in the hospital cafeteria to have lunch with her.
"Thanks guys for lunch. You are incredible. How's everything going?" Olivia said.
