Kalli here- Remember those special touches I mentioned earlier? Well, here they are. This chapter is basically an entire songfic. These two songs fit the situation perfectly, and the second one especially holds a very special place in my heart. I saw it performed live and it was so moving. It's a truly beautiful song
Terryn here- I've never written a songfic before actually so Kalli is mostly taking the lead on this one. Her song fics are incredible. However, I did pick First Burn because one it's stuck in my head at all times, and two, it kinda fits this story.

Rafael and Olivia have an encounter before the trial. Rafael realizes just how much he's lost.
It was the first day of the trial, the People Vs. Richard Wheatly was about to commence. And Rafael was a wreck. He was actively nauseous at the thought that he was about to defend a criminal and there was no backing out of it. There were times when hadn't talked to Olivia in days unless it was at work, but he wasn't allowed to talk to her at all now. Wheatley didn't want him accidentally telling her what was actually happening. His plan was to stay away from her, to keep her safe, but that all came to a crashing halt when Olivia came walking over to her with none other than Elliot Stabler, who was looking at him with a glare that could give even the strongest perp some sense of fear.
"Elliot, this is Rafael Barba." Olivia says.
Rafael extends out his hand but Elliot just glares at him.
"I'm very sorry for your loss Mr. Stabler. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you and your children."
"Like hell you are! And leave my children out of this."
Rafael already felt bad about the situation, he didn't need Elliot to make him feel worse. Elliot turned to Olivia.
"Liv."
Something in Rafael snapped when he heard Elliot call her by her nickname. He knows that he wasn't the one to come up with the nickname but he earned the right to call her it. Elliot was gone for ten years and automatically gets to call her that again? It didn't sit right with him.
"Liv, why are you introducing me to him?" Elliot said gruffly.
"Because he's still my friend." She said,
Rafael hoped she'd still feel this way after the trial.
"I don't know how you can be friends with a man like this."
That hurt more than Elliot could ever know. But right now he's not wrong. Elliot gets right up in his face.
"Elliot." Olivia says.
"I sure hope you lose."
