As the Wheatley trial progress, tensions run very high as the squad is pitted against each other and a darkness is revealed.
"The people call Sergeant Ayanna Bell to the stand." Carisi said as he finished writing on his legal pad and stood up.
Ayanna stood up from her seat and walked over to the witness stand. She sits up straight and looks like the confident police sergeant she always does. Barba had to admire that, he knew she would be a tough nut to crack, so for now he had to watch her and Sonny and hope they would give him something he could use. Ayanna looks at Sonny and gives a look that shows she trusts him. The two go back and forth, Sonny's questions are smart and well thought out. Ayanna answers each and every one of them with a calm but confident composure. Rafael couldn't find anything to use until she said
"We were able to receive the information we needed to determine who was responsible for Kathy Stabler's death."
"Thank you Sergeant. Nothing further."
Rafael quickly jots something down on his notepad. She was missing a few details in her story, he could use that somehow. Sonny sits back down and Rafael stands up ready to face this very strong and fierce woman. In other circumstances he would be praising how she handled herself on the stand, but now he had to find a way around that. His first thought was to use his charm.
"Sergeant Bell. Can I call you Ayanna?"
"No you may not." She answers a little bit miffed.
Rafael holds his hands up in defense.
"My mistake."
He chuckles a little bit and all Ayanna can think is what is this man doing? Sonny immediately knows he's either got nothing, or very little so he's stalling for time.
"Your Honor." Carisi says.
"Move it along Mr. Barba" Judge Catano says.
Ok so charm isn't going to work on her. Time for Plan B.
"Sergeant Bell, you said you were able to receive the information you needed to determine my client killed Kathy Stabler. Would you care to explain how?"
"We ran a very thorough investigation with the help of SVU to discover that the criminal we were looking for was Richard Wheatley."
"And that investigation included confronting a civilian in the dead of night didn't it?"
"Your Honor Mr. Stabler already explained this." Carisi says slightly annoyed.
"Sergeant Bell was there on the night of question and I would like to hear her side of the events as well."
"Very well. Carry on."
"Thank you, Your Honor."
Elliot, Amanda, and Sonny simultaneously roll their eyes at Rafael's very apparent kissing up. Rafael looks to Ayanna for her to answer his question.
"Yes, we met with Mr. Berkher at night."
"And that's when Mr. Stabler decided that in order to get this information he would use brutal force."
Rafael turns to the jury and waves his arm outwards
"The same brutal force that people like you and me have worked tirelessly to get the police to stop using. The same force that could very easily land one of us ordinary joe's in a courtroom like this very one here if we used it. The same f-
