Barson Bingo December 2021 prompt: Squabbling at 85

I've been talking to a group of friends and I brought up this prompt and i got a request to write it.

Summary: Blythe and Noah pay their parents a visit for Christmas

"Did you tell Mom and Papí we were coming?" a newly hired Manhattan DA's prosecutor Blythe Benson-Barba said as she knocked on her parent's front door.

"I wanted to surprise them. I know we've been busy. Me with the New York City Ballet's Christmas show and you starting your new job." Noah said.

This was the house Olivia and Rafael bought in preparation for having Blythe many years ago and it held so many precious memories, they never wanted to move. Their children stood on the steps a few moments longer before they saw Olivia and Rafael open the door.

"Oh my goodness. It's so good to see you two!" Olivia said as the parents and kids exchanged hugs and kisses on the cheek before heading inside.

"We we're just finishing making lunch, there's always enough for you two." Rafael said with a smile.

"Thanks Papí. You two always decorate for Christmas so beautifully." Noah said.

"Oh before I forget." Rafael said as he looked in his home office for a gift. "It's a little late Bee, but happy birthday míja."

Blythe opened the box and there were several things inside. The first thing was a small locket with a family picture inside. It was the one from when she graduated from Harvard Law School. The next thing in the box was her very own pen and stationery set with her name on it. What would become one of her favorite things would be the silver name plate that read Assistant District Attorney Blythe Benson-Barba

"Gracias Papí and Mom. You are incredible." Blythe said with a smile.

"You matter how old you get, you'll still be your Papí's little Bee." Her father said.

As the family sat at the table, Noah and Blythe wanted to catch their parents up about their lives. Noah spoke first.

"I've really enjoyed dancing and being part of the production team. I'll get tickets for you three to go this year's production of the Nutcracker. I really love what I get to do. Thanks for encouraging me since I was a kid."

"As you all know, I got a job. I'm officially working as an ADA in the Manhattan's District Attorney's office working with SVU. I took my first case to trial last week and won. The judge goes 'You must be Captain Benson and ADA Barba's daughter? You've got a reputation to uphold.' I didn't make my grand entrance like you did with putting a belt around a your neck." Blythe said.

"I'll never live that one down now will I? Rafael said with a chuckle. "How's has Hannah Brighton-Harlem doing as DA?"

"No you won't let it go and I won't either. She's great. We've brought a lot of changes to the Eighth Floor for the better." Blythe responded. "How's life for you two?"

"It's going. Your Mamí and still take daily walks and things to keep us young. We saw Fin, Phoebe, Amanda and Sonny the other day actually. We promised each other we'd be squabbling at eighty-five, and here we are. You two are our pride and joy and we're so incredibly proud." Rafael said as lunch was served by the kids.

"I'm asking Chelsea Anne to marry me on Christmas Eve this year. I introduced you to her before but she's incredibly supportive and talented as well." Noah said.

"Congratulations son. Did we ever tell you about how your father proposed to me?" Olivia said. "We took a walk on the harbor. It was the first time Rafael had stood up on his own in two months and got on one knee. He had been working so hard on that just for me. He was for the most part walking on his own on our wedding day."
