The first time Wolfstar had ever hugged was the night Sirius his mother burnt his face off the family tree. It was a wintery night in 1976, students were packing up and filing out to jump on the train. They couldn't wait to head home and meet their families.

But not Sirius.

Sirius climbed up the Gryffindor tower and sat himself on the roof. He just needed to see Regulus leave. Make sure his brother gets home safely. The wind pricked his skin but it didn't matter. Walburga's words in that howler was colder. And there he was ! He watched as the boy with a Slytherin cloak walk with the other purebloods.

When Regulus' back disappeared, he climbed back down into their dorm through the open window. He didn't bother smiling or feigning indifference. The other Marauders are on the train now, he's alone this Christmas.

He couldn't feel much. Yes, he was sad. Yes, his heart clenched. As much as he hates his family, being casted out hurts. Maybe in his heart, he hoped the Blacks actually loved him. That even if Sirius was a Gryffindor, even if Sirius had different views, they'd see him as their son. Maybe he hoped they'll welcome him on the platform like how James' family waits for him. They never do and the howler just seals the deal, they'll never will.

He slid down to the floor, hugging knees under the open window. The dorm's going to get cold, maybe then Sirius' feel something. The wind blew in the snow and Sirius just watched as the white flecks drift. If Peter was here, he'd be the first to complain and shut the windows. If James was here, he'd warm the dorm with a simple spell. If Remus was here...

What would Sirius do for Remus to be here ? Anything, he'd like to say. But it's cruel, asking the werewolf to stay back and join his pity party.

What he didn't know was that Remus is running through the train. His heavy, brown, trunk rolling behind him as he raced off the nearest door. James was about to run after him but Peter stopped him. "Let them." Remus hear him whisper.

He didn't bother asking what Peter meant, his main focus is to find a way back into Hogwart's.

His legs grew tired. If it wasn't for the lightening charm he added on his trunk, he'd be flopping to the floor. Just then Remus caught on a short creature. Wrinkly and pink, a house elf ! He must've helped stow the trunks in the train.

"Sir ! Please, can I apparate with you inside Hogwarts ?"

The elf turned. "How do I know you're a student ?"

Remus thought for a bit. "You cooked chicken broth and mash potatoes for the Christmas dinner. C'mon help me and I'll give you money."

Well, he's starting to sound a lot like a certain Black.

The elf couldn't pass up the offer of gold so he offered his skinny hand to Remus and they whirled into the school. When they arrived, Remus handed him a whole bag and one of his socks. The elf gleefully left, gold clinking on his waist and grey sock in hand, ready to be used to free him.

Remus scurried up to the Gryffindor common room. He found the space almost empty, aside from the odd ones. "Have any of you seen Sirius Black ?"

Some blushed at the name. Expected. That's what you get for speaking of that boy around here. A first year boy said, "No, I don't think he's left the boy's dorm."

"Alright thank you. Minerva likes sweet custards from Hogsmeade, give her those and she'll be nicer to you." With that he ran, no, flew up the stairs.

The first thing Remus felt when he opened their oak door was cold. Freezing wind blowing through his thick winter robes. The next was Sirius' shocked face.

"Wha-what are you doing here ?" He asked.

Remus flicked his wand and the windows flew shut. Another spell and the room warmed. He dropped his trunk and sighed.

"Was worried.. about you. God I need water." The werewolf transfigured one of his rings into a goblet. After a few sips, he turned back to Sirius still on the floor.

Remus sat cross-legged in front of Sirius' wilted frame. His knees still to his chest and his hair covered in little bits of snow. Remus brushed some of it off and use the chance to physically bring Sirius' face up. Remus' warm palm on his cold cheek.

"I'm staying for Christmas. I'm here with you alright ? You're not alone anymore."

"Not alone anymore." Sirius parrots.  At the thought of his family that left him, his eyes turned glassy. Eyelids fluttered and his lips quivered.

"Oh Sirius, come here."

With Remus' open arms, Sirius fit right in. His face hidden in the crook of Remus' neck. The other holding him through the cries. His hand smoothing Sirius' hair as he whispered.

"It's alright Sirius. Let it out." Remus kissed his temple. "You'll be okay."

That was their first, real hug. Vulnerable and fragile. Sirius could feel the threads on Remus' sweater tickle his nose. He could feel his skin and the warmth it radiates. The way it bursts through the cold.

Remus didn't pull away before Sirius did. He took a good look at the other. His thumb swiped the falling tears away. Sirius sniffed a few times before falling back in his embrace.

"On second thought, let's move to the bed. I don't want us to die on the floor."

Remus couldn't describe the relief he felt when he heard the slightest chuckle come out of Sirius. He helped them both up and after shedding his coat, laid on Sirius' bed.

The other didn't care, he just needed his wolfy near him. Sirius curled up into Remus. Blankets magically swaddling them as they drifted to sleep.
