14. growing old

10 pm in the lupins cottage.

There was remus lupin sitting near the windows while reading a book. The fabric on the sofa felt soft on remus' frail body. After all he is just a 70 year old man with a grouchy attitude.

Anyways he was silently reading and sipping tea a couple of times. Outside the window, the raging storm was hitting hard on the window. Ever drop of rain water is seen on the window.

The fire is crackling while the scent of vanilla was spreading through the living room. Moony never felt so cosy.
He was reading when warm soft fur came to his lap.

"hullow sirius, if i were you id be human and drag a chair next to remus and read with him" i said causally without lifting my head.

The dog looked at the man with disgust and started dog whining. (That happens when you live with a dog person for alot of years). "Stop stop i get it you dont want to and you feel lazy and all now please quiet and let me read my book thank you"

Padfoot just lay his head on remus' stomach and closed his eyes. Its not a rare view of sirius sleeping as padfoot but the worst part is his drooling. Dog drools are wayyyy more sticky than normal human drools. He didnt want to break the peacefulness so he closed the book. And carried this dog-human.

Padfoot is heavy but remus loves him so he thinks its worth the ache. Aftera all he is an old man and so is sirius but their hearts stay young like it used to be. The wars wore them out. Even james and lily grew old and they even started knitting. The muggle
Way. Remus never had the patience.

But sirius is a really good painter. Sometimes people pass by and they see sirius' painting dry outside and they ask if its for sale. Sirius is a goblin at heart such a good sales man.

Remus carried the dog upstairs to the bed room we share. "You know for an old dog you are heavy. Reallly heavy paddy" he said to the dog. And the dog just started whining. "Ok ok shut up now"

Remus put paddy on the bed and laid beside the dog. But he put tissues around padfoot just in case he drools.
Remus feel lucky. Very lucky. He gets to spend an old age with his best friend. Not to mention he get to MARRY his best friend. Now that is a great milestone hes proud of. He beamed at himself and his dog smelling companion

Sirius or should he say padfoot. Lay
Beside remus. The werewolf just slept looking at padfoot while scratching its ear. And padfoot soon slept peacefully. Remus kissed his forehead and slept after that.

All is well
