A sharp breath. Sirius sat up abruptly, his heart beating loudly in his chest. A stable knock against his ribcage with every inhale. What a nightmare ! He thought.

He brought his hand to wipe of the sweat and cover his lips. So he won't awake the sleeping man beside him. He thanked every deity that Remus is a deep sleeper.

Sirius slowly moved out of his spot. His feet meeting the cold surface of wood as he shuffled his way to the bathroom. The night was quiet, only with sounds from the road below.

"God, Sirius get a grip." He muttered, splashing some water to his face. He took a good look of himself in the mirror.

He thought he'd  never get nightmares once he married Remus. That man is an angel sent from above and really, he was lucky the angel wanted him back. But it wasn't  about them, it was his past.

How the trauma never really moved out of him. I mean, he's the Sirius Black. He's a living legend from the 1st wizarding war. He's the brave punk and rebel. The man who fought against all odds to be with the one he truly loved.

He felt his knees weaken. Remembering his dream, his eyes watered. He hated this feeling, being fragile. He choked a sob as his palm covered his mouth.

            "A failure."

"Embarrassment ! We know nothing of him."

"He has no family now. He does not belong to us."

"You are nothing but a worrisome, bothersome son."

He promised to himself ages ago. That those words will never hurt him again. That it is a piece of his past but will never define the man he is now. It still hurt. It still caused the pain in his gut and the ache in his heart.

             "Sirius ?"

He quickly wiped his tears away. Stood straight back up and splashed some more water to his face.
"Coming, Remus. A second please."

He knew he didn't sound convincing. The fact that he didn't hear Remus' shuffling was enough to know that the other was waiting for him behind the door. Sirius sighed 1 more time before opening the door.

"Are you- you're not." Remus said and opened his arms. "Come here."

Sirius nodded and let his head find Remus' warm neck. He breathed in his familiar scent, the pain leaving his body gradually. Remus' arms holding him so securely. He knew he won't hurt him.

"Let's go back to bed, yeah ?" Remus says softly as he patted Sirius' hair. Once he felt a nodd, Remus held his hand.

Remus laid down first then inviting Sirius under the duvet. The man felt like a little boy again. He slumped into Remus' chest. His right arm curving around his stomach.

"I thought the nightmares stopped." Remus prompted.

Sirius shook his head. "Its rare, but it happens. I'm not sad anymore Remus. Its just that, it echoes."

"I know. Makes me want to go back in time and punch them myself."

That made chuckle slightly. "I just hate that I get to remember the mean bits. Instead they get to move on, burn my portrait off the wall and pretend they never had me. Like I was so easy to remove."

                 "Hey, look at me."

Sirius moved his head and their eyes met, twinkling in the dark. "Remember that 1 time I accidentally burned our polaroid with a wrong spell ? I cried like I lost you for real. My point is, the echoes will one day stop coming to you. I can promise you, I'll be there with you. You're staying with me and that's that."

Sirius felt a blush creep to his cheeks. "Ah shut up. You're making me pink like Mrs. Cambridge's underpants."

Remus smiled and swiftly kissed his forehead. "I hope you understand that, you'll never be removed from my life Sirius. I won't allow it. Whatever lies ahead, I'm with you. I swear I'll never let anyone take you away from me. You're mine to love and protect. Only mine."

He pulled Sirius tighter agaisnt himself. "I'm here with you until the echoes turn to whispers. Till we get old and wrinkly."

                    Sirius chuckled again. "Thank you."

"No, Thank you. For choosing me, trusting me. Letting me hold you. I love you."

                     "Not more than I."
