"You fancy me mad. A madman knows nothing. But you should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded — with what caution — with what foresight — with what dissimulation I went to work! I was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him."
"What are you saying?" One of them asked.
"I'm reciting the Tell tale heart by Edgar Allen Poe. My best friend would read it to me when I couldn't sleep and we lived together. I continued it after we parted ways and I have trouble sleeping, though.... Nothing will beat the way he does it. So energetic with it, he's amazing..... I fear I'll hurt him soon. If I don't die here that is."
"You have made this whole thing boring."
"Death can be boring for those who want to die. Like an old friend greeting one another. Has been like that since I saw our other friend be shot. Death doesn't matter if I beg to be released from my painful life."
We fell into silence till he got up from his spot and walked over to me. He punched my in the stomach before hitting me in the face, and I spat out some blood.
"Pathetic choice we all made." He admitted before leaving me alone in the barn.
I could feel the blood in my mouth mixing with my saliva, and it beginning to fall out of my mouth.
"True! — nervous — very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses — not destroyed — not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute....." I began to recite from the start again.(Spencer p.o.v)
"How the hell did they leave without anyone seeing them?" Rossi questioned but I had trouble thinking.
"You fancy me mad. A madman knows nothing. But you should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded — with what caution — with what foresight — with what dissimulation I went to work! I was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him...." I recited go try and clear my head.
"What's that Reid?" Morgan asked but I shook it off.
"It's nothing."
"No Reid. You keep mumbling this, we wanna know what you're saying." Jj told as she placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I just recite Edgar Allen Poes Tell-tale heart."
"Why?" Prentiss questioned.
"When we were roommates, Ash had trouble sleeping sometimes. So one night, I read it to her and she fell asleep. I continued to do so till we lived apart, where she took over in reciting it for herself. It's the only thing that helps a bit to clear my mind..... but it's not working right now. Nothing is working because Ash isn't safe, she is being tortured and I can't hold her and tell her it's going to be ok. Because we don't know where she is. I can't lose her, not her."
"Kid, it's gonna be ok." Morgan told.
"It's not. They have killed several people and Ash will be one of them if we can't find her. I have a wealth of knowledge I should be applying to this case. Behavioral patterns of violent kidnappers. Tactical recovery strategies. Victim survival odds. But right now I can't focus on anything more than 4 seconds at a time. Which makes me the dumbest person in the room. So... Please help me. Help me find her. I can't lose her like we lost him." I told as tears fell down my face.
"Kid. We will find her. Ash is one strong chick, and we will get her back. They won't kill her so easily."
"I know they won't. I'm worried about her killing them. She doesn't like killing but she will if she has to..... and I know where she is and what they are doing to her, she'll kill them all."
"Penelope, any update?" Hotch asked.
"Her phone was left at the hotel room. They don't show up on any cameras. There is no way for us to find her. I don't know what I'm meant to do." She told.
"Tracking..... we can track her." I told.
"How?"
"I got Ash a necklace that she likes to wear when we go on cases. It's a little pendent, it has a tracker in it."
"You put a tracker in her necklace?" They all questioned.
"She's put multiple on me. Again. Family has a thing with people disappearing, it's very common to get something from Ash with a tracker on it."
"Do we?"
"No. She hasn't figured out what to put one in to give to everyone." I admitted before getting the laptop and going to the website for it.
After I entered the details I needed we were brought to a map.
'Come on Ash! Where are you.'
After a few seconds, a red dot appeared on the screen giving us a location.
"We know where she is!" Penelope exclaimed.
"We go now!" Hotch told making us all rush out.
'We're coming for you Ash. Just hold on!'
