A song about history.

Ever since Spencer found out about my other life, he's been very interested in learning as much as he can about everything in the subject. It's been an experience but I'm also glad Spencer put that tape in.

I was playing my guitar on the couch working on a new song while Spencer read and listened along, giving suggestions here and there. It's sweet but also he doesn't always get things correct when it comes to music which I think is cute about him. He try's and that's all I could really ask from him. Also helps some of his suggestions are fucken good.
"What do think of this rift?" I asked before playing it for him to see he gave a smile and looked up at me.
"I like it. You should use it."
"I think I might."
We continued to do our usual thing when my front door opened to Penelope coming in.
"Ok, so I heard music and came rushing over." She told making me chuckle.
"Get food or a drink and sit and watch." I told making her head to my kitchen.
"You left your door unlocked?"
"Na. I gave her a key after Abbys visit due to how much she's over. I have one for hers as well.... Not that I needed one honestly." I told making sure the last part was quite so Penelope didn't hear and Spencer just shook his head at that.
Once Penelope had what she needed she came back and sat in the chair on Spencer side and she began to knit. After awhile I worked out the draft for the song.
"Think I've worked it all out."
"Can we listen to it?"
"Yeah sure." I told before moving to make sure I wouldn't mess up from how I was sitting on the couch.

"Who's gonna tell us the stories, that our textbooks don't?
Tales of love that stay blurry, cause our courses won't
Ignore the way they're designed to erase the past
To keep good intentions secret
To force.. a mask

Too many handwritten letters
Signed to: my dearest, with love
All pulled from their papers, ripped out as cover up
To disguise endearment, as friendly notes
It doesn't take a scholar, to know how this one goеs
And historians will call them

Close friends, bеsties, roommates, colleagues, anything but lovers.
History hates lovers
Sidekicks, family, good pals, buddies, anything but lovers
History hates lovers

40 years living together
Wearing the same wedding bands
Two kids and a golden retriever
'Just friends' don't live like that
They don't look at each other
With love in their eyes
With hopes to settle down for the rest of their lives

How many decades of hiding?
21 centuries of hate
Some things may not've been okay back then
But it's sure all right today
Too afraid to call it what it is

It doesn't take a scholar, to understand this
And historians will call them

Close friends, besties, roommates, colleagues, anything but lovers
History hates lovers
Sidekicks, family, good pals, buddies, anything but lovers
History hates lovers

Keep it hidden
Rewrite history
Leave it wrapped up in a mystery
Because no one can figure it out (I think they figured it out)
Stash the proof, hide the evidence
Keep it locked until it's relevant
Because they can't figure it out (I think they figured it out)

Because no one can figure it out
I think they figured it out
And historians will call them

Close friends, besties, roommates, colleagues, anything but lovers
Sidekicks, family, good pals, buddies, anything but lovers

Close friends, besties, roommates, colleagues, anything but lovers
History hates lovers
Sidekicks, family, good pals, buddies, anything but lovers
History hates lovers."

Once I finished the song Penelope clapped making me chuckle.
"Thanks Pen."
"No problem...... Ash?"
"Nope."
"Ok."
'Life is pretty good like this.'

What I didn't know but wish I did..... life couldn't stay good. No matter how much we wished for it to.
