There's nothing I love more than the sound of my alarm at 6:15am telling me to pull my pathetic arse out of bed and get myself ready to get to University for my first day...
Not...
I would rather just lay here staring at the ceiling, thinking about the emptiness of all things silent and enjoying every blissful minute of it before the world creeps in and destroys the tiny bit of energy I do have. The little energy gifted to me from the minimal sleep I did get while I tossed and turned all night, stressing about starting uni today...
Ehh, I need coffee...
"Amelia! Get up!", yells the only voice I can maybe tolerate this early in the morning... Maybe... My best-friend and housemate, Taya. "If I have to be up, so do you bitch!".
She's on the other side of my bedroom door in her pjs or what I'd imagine would be an oversized band tee that she probably kept as a souvenir from the latest dude that she let 'come over'.
"I'm getting up!", I groan before turning off my alarm and moving myself out from under the comfort and safety of my bed covers.
Over at the window I pull open the blinds, letting the warm early autumn sun seep in and fill my dark, happy place, my bedroom. I scrunch my face up and scold the sun, "Welcome... world...".
Ehh...
Once I'm showered and dressed in my favourite black swing dress, white crop t-shirt and lace up boot combo that I practically live in, I walk into the kitchen. Taya is stood at the breakfast bar eating her cereal, staring into her laptop.
"Woot woo! What a hot bitch!", I cheer while flicking the power button on, on my most loved and prized possession, my coffee machine.
Taya is dressed in her typical sophisticated work attire - a maroon coloured blouse with white spots, black blazer with perfectly rolled cuffed sleeves, a pencil skirt and flats. She looks both elegant and feminine but also badass as fuck.
"Shut up", she says with clear annoyance in her voice. She rolls her eyes at me before shifting her focus back to her laptop. She gets awkward with compliments, even when they're from me.
Taya is 26, just shy of 3 years older than me and an accountant manager at a huge firm in the city. I've admired her from the day we met. She didn't have the best, most opportune start to life but some how, she worked her arse off to put herself through Uni, get her masters degree in accounting and work her way to up to being accounting manager.
She amazes me.
"So, what class do you have first today?", Taya asks, not shifting her eyes in the slightest from her laptop screen.
"Introduction to Photography Science, but my class isn't until 8:50am so I'm meeting up with Benjamin to get coffee before hand", I reply.
"Ben?", Taya questions.
"Mhm?".
Benjamin is a dude we met at a local band's gig we went to a few months ago. He's hot as fuck and knows it but is also genuine and actually pretty kind for your 'typical cocky hot guy'. He's the type most girls want to sleep with and don't get me wrong, I totally understand why but him and I aren't like that. We became such good friends so quickly it'd be weird for us to ever go there. We just clicked and there was no sexual chemistry right from the get go. I'm fairly certain Taya slept with him the night we met anyways... And we don't share... He also attends Griffith University so he said he'd meet me for coffee before helping me get to my first class.
"You have coffee", Taya says while motioning to the hot cup of brown liquid gold I hold in my hands.
"Yes but I need more, DUH!", I respond with sharp sass that even my teenage self would be offended by.
"Ahh okay, you sassy cow". Taya flicks a confused and annoyed look at me while placing her cereal bowl in the sink, "Anyways, I'm off, I want to get to the office early. I have a stack of reports that the new trainees have just submitted to get through. Have a great first day", she says before exiting the kitchen and down the hall, laptop bag, phone and keys in hand.
"BYE BITCH!", I shout to her as she approaches the garage, "LOVE YOU!".
"Love you to!", she half mumble, half yells back.
I lean against the kitchen bench, close my eyes and smile into my mug as I take another sip.
Ahhhh coffee...
*Ding Ding*
'Meet you at Starbucks, the one on the corner, outside the University in 20mins?', Ben's text brings me out of my coffee bliss and sends a familiar pit to my stomach.
Oh that's right, I have to start Uni today.
'Yup, See you then, I'm sooooo excited 😳🙄 x', I type out and hit send before downing the last of my coffee and gathering all my shit for school.
"Why the fuck am I so anxious?", I say to myself.
