Mingyu watched Wonwoo walk away, his heart feeling like it dropped to the pit of his stomach. He'd made a mistake--that much was clear.

Junhui ran after Wonwoo, and Seokmin stood there in shock. It was clear he really didn't believe Mingyu when he had told him about his plan. Seokmin opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He ended up following after his two friends without a single word leaving his lips.

The whole hallway was in complete silence. Nobody said anything as they slowly lowered their phones, stunned. Maybe doing this is in front of everybody was the worst part of this plan.

Jeonghan broke the silence first. "I can't say I'm really surprised."

"Really?" Seungkwan said. "You aren't surprised that Kim Mingyu, our tall, extroverted, attractive friend is captivated by Jeon Wonwoo, a photographer who wants nothing to do with the human existence aside from his friends? Please tell me I'm missing something."

"You can't deny he's also hot," the blonde said.

"No, I can't," Seungkwan replied. "And you say that casually, like you've been gay your whole life! What is this?"

"You're acting like you're going through a middle-aged crisis. And you said so yourself, I'm not wrong."

Mingyu was still looking in the direction Wonwoo had left in. "I don't think he likes me very much," he said, more to himself than his friends.

"He'll get over it," Jeonghan told him. He now stood in front of Mingyu. "Look at me."

Mingyu slowly turned his focus to his blonde friend. He flinched back when Jeonghan put his phone's flashlight directly in his eye. "Ow," he complained. "At least warn me before you do that."

"Sorry, now come closer."

The turquoise male had to squint into the light, but he quickly got used to it. The older's face was hard to read as he studied Mingyu's eye.

"I don't see anything yet," Jeonghan clarified, pulling his phone back. "But I heard that you have 24 hours to see if he's actually your soulmate. If your eyes haven't changed by then, then I hate to say that Wonwoo isn't your soulmate. I recommend not kissing anyone until you know for sure."

"I don't just go around kissing people for the hell of it," Mingyu said, dryly.

"Then I guess you don't have much to worry about, do you?"

🌈

Chan gave him a blank look. "So, let me get this straight. You just went up to him . . . and kissed him?"

"And then he ran away," Mingyu said. "And in my defense, it was for a bet."

"That really doesn't make it any better."

Mingyu stirred the noodles with a sigh. "I know, and now, I don't know what to say when I see him again."

"Were you really that desperate for a soulmate?"

"No, it was all Jeonghan's idea."

"All three of you plan to basically harass your crushes?" Chan asked.

"You make me sound like some sort of creep."

"All I'm saying, is why don't you guys just let it happen rather than actively searching for them?"

"I don't know," Mingyu responded. That was the question. Why not just wait? Why'd he have to agree to Jeonghan's bet?

Chan glanced down at his watch then began removing his apron. "My shift's about to end. But my advice as someone who won't ever have a soulmate, don't worry too much about it. It's possible to live without one. Just look at me. I'm living the life working at a noodle joint." He spread his arms as if he was showing off something impressive. "Soulmates aren't everything. If Wonwoo turns out to be yours, well, good for you."

"But he doesn't like me."

"Hey, if he's your soulmate, you're already one step closer to his heart. And remember, if he isn't, at least you have one somewhere out there."

Mingyu frowned. "I'm sorry. I'm being inconsiderate, aren't I?"

Chan shrugged. "I could honestly care less. I think the white circle around my pupil looks cool."

As Chan walked out the door, Jisoo walked in. He came up to the counter, ordered a soda, then said, referring to Chan, "I always feel so bad for him."

"Yeah," Mingyu agreed. "He may not have someone assigned to him, but at least he can still find someone out there to love. There are couples who do that."

"Yeah," the other said, distracted. Mingyu was about to point out Jisoo's mood when the older started talking again. He moved to get his step-brother his drink.

"When did you kiss Wonwoo?" the other asked.

"Um. Sometime after school?"

"So, you still have plenty of time before you figure out if he's your true love," Jisoo said. "What will you do until then?"

"I have no idea," Mingyu said. He passed Jisoo the cup. "Really, what happens next all depends on him." The turquoise-haired male took another customer's order as a girl he didn't know the name of came in for her shift. "Wait, how do you already know about it?" he asked Jisoo.

"Thanks," the brunette said, taking the cup. He sipped at it. "You've lived in this world for, what, 18 years? People talk, Mingyu. Wonwoo will probably be pissed when people begin to realize that your 'crush' is him."

Mingyu bit his lip. He was already feeling guilty. Leave it to Jisoo to make it worse. "How do you know that?"

"You're the son of a popular company's CEO. Everything that happens in your life is pretty public," the other male answered, in an obviously tone.

"No, I mean, how do you know Wonwoo will get mad about it?" Mingyu clarified.

"Wonwoo's in the photography club. Journalism club has been working with them, and from what I've learned in the past couple of weeks is it's clear that rumors are the last thing he wants to be involved in. He sits in class wearing headphones to ignore all the gossip until the teacher comes in. You ask me."

"Right." That was the only thing Mingyu could think to say. "My shift ends in an hour. Seungkwan and I are going to talk to Hansol. Wanna come?"

Jisoo shook his head. "No, I'll pass. I'm gonna go catch up to Chan. I'll see you at home." He gave a small wave before leaving.

Mingyu took other people's orders, a forced smile on his face for the customers. He'd messed up all right. But for now, he just won't think about it. He could fix the problem tomorrow at school.
