*before the two year skip*

Seungkwan had come to hate the color of his eyes. They were so dark now, and he'd come to miss the silvery grey they once were.

It was nothing against Jeonghan. He loved the blonde but not as a soulmate. There was no way in hell he would ever love Jeonghan as a soulmate.

Yes, that was a little harsh to even think, but Hansol was on his mind. It was constantly Hansol this, Hansol that. Jeonghan was never supposed to be in the picture in this way.

Why did the universe say Jeonghan was his soulmate, and Hansel wasn't? It didn't make any sense whatsoever to the red head. Hansol was the one Seungkwan liked. Hell, "like" was a total understatement. "Love" is more like it.

Jeonghan was simply "bestie" material; not soulmate material.

Although unfair, Seungkwan had come to strongly dislike Jeonghan. He didn't like the blonde because of the bet or his stupid idea of seeing if they were soulmates.

Seungkwan definitely hadn't thought that second thing through before they kissed. He didn't think about the outcome if they did turn out to be meant for each other.

It was total bullshit. Yeah, that's exactly what it was. He believed the soulmate system was fucked. The idea of it was fascinating at first, but the reality could go fuck itself, and then disappear into a deep, dark cave and never show its face again.

Regardless of what he thought, he found himself in the hold of Jeonghans's father. Him and Jeonghan's relationship would go public.

Seungkwan's parents weren't home often, therefore he was considered the mysterious son. The public didn't know much about him, and that's how he preferred to keep it. But now, he was going to be the center of everyone's attention, and he didn't think he could handle it.

"Alright, you guys are excused," Jeonghan's father said with a single wave of his hand. That's all it took to get the two boys out of his office.

Neither of them said anything as they made their way to the first floor and out the doors. Seungkwan intended to stop for a taxi, but Jeonghan kept walking. The younger male watched Jeonghan pull something from his pocket as he made his way around the corner.

Curious, Seungkwan followed. Afterall, the two haven't really talked much since all of this happened.

Imagine Suengkwan's suprise when he found the blonde male with a lit cigarette between his lips. "Jeonghan . . ." the red-head began.

"Don't," Jeonghan snapped. "I get it. I ruined your life. If I'd known it was even a slim possibility I would have stayed away. It's not like I asked for this either, you know?" He took a big exhale of his cigarette then threw it to the ground. "You aren't the only one suffering here, Seugnkwan. I mean, I fell for someone who had his soulmate die. Who may never actually truly love me for me because our eyes weren't in sync.

"I didn't ask for my father to fucking make us public, or worse yet, use us for fucking money. I'm just as much of a victim as you are, and I'm so tired." He slowly slipped to his knees. Seungkwan just stood there listening, watching.

Jeonghan continued. "What are we going to do? You were my best friend and now we barely talk to each other. You're so distant with me, and I just feel so alone now. Mingyu's never around because of his stupid job, and I'm with you all the time  but you never say a word to me." His voice broke and Seungkwan took that moment to fall to his knees and envelope his soulmate into a hug.

"You're right. It's not your fault," Seungkwan told him. "We both agreed to the kiss and it's not like either of us would have predicted this outcome. We were both heartbroken and desperate. It's not our fault. It's the system." They sat there silently, an occasional sniffle sounding out from the quiet.

"I think soulmates is a subjective term," the red-head started.

Jeonghan pushed himself away and gave him a questioning look. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, look at us. We're crying in a alleyway, mid-day because who we thought was the right person didn't turn out to be so right in the end. But who gets to decide that?"

"I don't get it."

"We were best friends for years that turned out to be soulmates. What if a soulmate isn't someone you spend the rest of your life with romantically? But if it's someone who is just meant to be a part of your life forever?" Seungkwan tried to explain.

"So like, as soulmates, we would just be lifelong best friends?" Jeonghan asked.

"Yeah, exactly. I mean, so many soulmates don't make it because they think they're meant to be in a romantic relationship, but what if that's not the case?"

"Okay, but what about the fact that you have to kiss someone in order to find your soulmate?"

"I haven't really thought that through yet, but I'm sure there's an explanation somewhere," Seungkwan admitted. His hope began to dwindle. He thought his explanation made so much sense, but maybe soulmates were meant to be romantic.

"Are you okay, Seungkwan? If you don't want my father doing something, I'll tell him. I'll tell him we aren't really soulmates."

As much as Seungkwan wanted this to end, he shook his head. For one reason specifically, this couldn't end just yet. "No. I feel like things will only get worse for you if we quit now. In the meantime, I want you to think shit through. Maybe dye your hair, start looking at apartments, quit smoking."

For the first time in a long time, Jeonghan laughed. A real genuine laugh. "I don't even like smoking. I only started because my dad said not to."

Seungkwan rolled his eyes and let out his own genuine laugh. Of course, that would make perfect sense.

"What are you going to do?" Jeonghan asked once the laughing died down and he threw his pack down the alley to never be grabbed again.

"I'm going to talk to Hansol," Seugkwan replied. "I feel like he deserves the truth from me rather than some billboard or online article."

Jeonghan leaned his head back against the concrete wall behind him. He released what sounded like a sad laugh and saluted. "Good luck, my fellow friend. Love you."

Seungkwan gave the blonde a long hug before standing. "Love you too, Jeonghan. I'll see you later."

a/n: this is the first part of seungkwan and hansol's story. I know hansol is barely even in this chapter but i felt like this chapter was necessary to discuss seungkwan's situation and his thought process for what's to come. i haven't decided if this story will be in seungkwan's pov only or not.  also, updates will still be pretty slow lol.
