The gigantic roller coaster in the distance made Wonwoo a little giddy, as if he was little kid again. But it also made him want to turn back around. This whole endeavor was already a disaster.
Yet, he continued to follow Mingyu's instructions and pulled into the crowded parking lot. After today, he'd have nothing to do with the younger.
"Why are we at an amusement park?" he asked.
"Do you know what the date is today?" Mingyu said.
Wonwoo thought about that. He didn't know. After a check of his phone, he had no idea why today was special. He didn't write it down and his life has been so hectic as of lately. The only important date he really knew was the due date of his and Jisoo's project that started this mess.
"I don't know," he said as he reached into the back seat to grab his camera.
"And that is the exact reason why we are here today," Mingyu replied.
Hanging his camera around his neck, Wonwoo followed Mingyu to the entrance of the park. "We're here because I don't know the date?"
The turquoise-haired male grinned a little. "Not exactly," he answered after the entry worker let them in without payment. Wonwoo didn't question Mingyu or the free entrance.
They stopped at a large fountain, one of those ones with some mystical creature spouting water from its mouth. Mingyu took a map from one of the workers offering and offered it to Wonwoo. Wonwoo rejected the offer, but Mingyu seemed unbothered.
"What should we do first?" Mingyu questioned.
Wonwoo looked around. It had been a really long time since he'd been to this exact place, but he knew it like the palm of his hand. "Rollercoasters," he said.
He thought he saw the other male gulp. "Which one?" Mingyu asked.
"All of them."
Mingyu rose an eyebrow. "Really?"
Wonwoo shrugged. "Yeah, there's a lot of them. We might as well hit those first."
Mingyu laughed. Wonwoo was beginning to think he was a little nervous.
They stood in line for the first rollercoaster, listening to the chatter of crowds around them. Two girls were behind them, talking much louder than necessary. Wonwoo listened, all the while wishing the line would move faster.
"They're so hot. Is it possible for guys like them to even exist?" one of them gushed.
"Shhh, they'll hear you," the other hissed.
"I'm gonna ask the one with glasses out."
"Don't they both look familiar, though?"
They were silent for a moment, but it didn't last long. Suddenly, one of them makes a sort of squealing noise. Wonwoo grimaced and turned to glare at her. The one who shushed her before elbowed her in the side and gave a hard look.
"I'm sorry," the first girl apologized, bowing her head quickly. Then quieter to her friend, "I know where we've seen them from."
And that's when Wonwoo chose to stop listening. He was honestly surprised that it took this long for people to recognize them. Especially Mingyu.
It felt like they'd never get to the front of this line. Wonwoo's hatred for long, slow-moving lines has never faltered in the many years it's been. It also left room for conversation which he wasn't particularly interested in at that moment.
Mingyu leaned down towards him. "Sorry," he said. It was unclear if he was apologizing for the girls or for the line.
Wonwoo sighed. Really, he didn't care if the girls knew them from the video. All he really worried about was people finding out things they weren't supposed to. And, lucky for him, it didn't seem like the Kims felt like digging anytime soon.
"If I have to wait in another line like this, I think I might choke somebody," he answered.
"We don't have to go on this if you don't want to," Mingyu suggested.
"No, we're going on it. This is my favorite ride." He looked over at the younger due to his silence. Mingyu was grinning at him. "What?" Wonwoo asked.
The taller male shook his head. "Nothing."
"So, do you have like a forever pass to this place?" Wonwoo asked to change the subject. He would have just stopped talking if he knew Mingyu was going to do the same.
"Are you actually curious?" Mingyu asked incredulously.
"Why does everyone do that when I ask a genuine question?" the black-haired male said, pushing his glasses up.
"I think your reactions are kinda cute," Mingyu told him. He rubbed the back of his neck. "Oops, I didn't mean to say that."
Wonwoo felt his face warm up and cleared his throat. He chose to ignore that statement. "So?"
"My dad helps pay for maintenance and the like here, so my friends and I get free entry," he said then added in a mutter, "It'd be nice if he threw in some fast passes while he was at it."
"Ah, the perks of being rich," Wonwoo said expecting that kind of answer.
"Honestly, it gets kind of annoying. I'm not as famous as my dad, butt people still follow me around sometimes. Everyone is always expecting things from me, too, and not in a gold way. Like, 'Hey, your money never runs out, how about you buy me a mansion!'"
Wonwoo felt kinda sympathetic. The world was dense and feelings meant nothing to it.
"You know, a mansion sounds nice," Wonwoo said, risking a small smirk.
Mingyu threw his head back and groaned dramatically. "Not you, too," he complained.
"Never. If i were to ask for anything, I'd ask for a never ending supply of sound-proof ear plugs."
The tall male gave him an odd look. "Why?"
"So I can block out the world's bullshit."
"The world really has nothing good to say, does it?" Mingyu agreed. Wonwoo went to respond when the ride operator called out, "Next!"
Together, the two climbed into a car and latched their restraints. Mingyu's eyes widened as they slowly ascended the hill. Wonwoo thought he might cry. He must be scared of rollercoasters, he thought. But why did Wonwoo even care about how Mingyu felt?
