One gray eye and one brown eye stared back at him. Wonwoo found himself doing this often--staring at himself in the mirror before he'd completely put on his neutral-colored contacts. He found the dark natural color of his iris fascinating.
Yet, each time, he remembered why they were like that and slipped the second contact over his other eye.
Although recently, he'd been more and more tempted to just ditch the contacts. Mingyu still hadn't hid his own eyes, and if Wonwoo were to tell the truth, he didn't want to hide his either. He could tell that he was starting to fall for the turquoise-haired male even if he didn't want to admit it.
But in reality, Wonwoo couldn't let himself do that. If he fell completely, he'd need to break both of their hearts to keep things from reaching their worst. Heartbreak between the two would be inevitable. Their social statuses were just too different. But honestly? Wonwoo didn't think a relationship with someone of his own status would last very long either.
He left the bathroom and made his way to the kitchen where Mrs. Jeon was making some sort of hangover concoction along with some breakfast. Today must be one of her few days off. Most days she'd be gone by this time already.
Wonwoo leaned against the counter and watcher hed her silently. Her back was turned to him, so he didn't notice him immediately, which was fine. Wonwoo enjoyed watching his mother do something a normal mother would do rather than sulk around the house, work, drink, or sleep.
When she finally did notice him, she gave him a small smile. "Good morning. I'm attempting breakfast, but I cannot promise it's edible," she said, her tone regretful.
"I'll eat whatever you make." He glanced at the time. He had a few minutes before he was supposed to be at school, but he wasn't going to mention it and ruin whatever good mood his mother seemed to be in at the moment.
She put together a few bowls and plates and set them on the small table in dining room. Wonwoo followed her and sat in his usual seat. "Eat up," she said once everything was set on the table.
Things were silent for a while, which Wonwoo wasn't sure if he enjoyed. It left him with his thoughts; Mingyu was a part of them. For a brief second, Wonwoo thought that maybe he should tell the woman across from him that he found his soulmate but immediately was against the idea. Wonwoo didn't like the idea itself, and he was pretty sure Mrs. Jeon wouldn't either.
"Hey, Wonwoo?" she said, interrupting his thoughts.
He looked down at his bowl to make sure he'd been eating so as not to offend her. He had been eating, but not so much as tasting. His mind has been a mess.
"Hm?" he answered.
Sadness flickered across her face. "How do you feel about visiting your father?" she asked.
Wonwoo's mind immediately cleared and he glared across the table. Not at his mother, but at the idea of his father. "No."
She continued like she hadn't heard him. "He called me early this morning saying he misses you. Wants to know if you'd go and visit him?"
Wonwoo stood up. "I'm fine, Mom. I'll pass. Thank you for the food." He took care of his dishes, slipped his bag over his shoulder, and left the house before the conversation could be continued any further. It was rude, but Mr. Jeon calling was even worse. Wonwoo knew exactly what mood Mrs. Jeon would be in later because of it.
She must have made breakfast earlier as a distraction, and possibly to make Wonwoo feel better about Mr. Jeon's request. Wonwoo would never understand his mother.
He pulled into the school's parking lot and climbed out of the car. Right away, he spotted his Junhui, Seokmin, and Soonyoung at the school's entrance. Soonyoung noticed him first and waved him over. Wonwoo forced the sour expression off his face and made his way to them. His group of friends circled around Seokmin's phone. Wonwoo could already tell that it had to do with some sort of gossip like article and began to back away.
"Hold on a second," Junhui said placing a hand on Wonwoo's arm. "This has to do with you, too."
"Please don't be another video," Wonwoo mumbled.
Junhui just shook his head and took the phone from Seokmin to give to Wonwoo. On the screen were two pictures. One with Seungchol and Mingyu, the other with Wonwoo and Mingyu. The first picture were the two coming out of Mingyu's house, the other was the small kiss Wonwoo had initiated the night of Mingyu's birthday. Wonwoo's face was blurred in the second picture, but anyone who really knew him could tell who it was.
The article explained how Seungchol and Mingyu were sons of popular company CEOs, and there were rumors spread that the two may someday be married to merge the companies. The rest of the article discussed the second photo. How nobody really knew about this mysterious guy. Why would Mingyu possibly be interested in him? Or was it the other way around . . .
Wonwoo passed the phone back to Seokmin before he could finish the rest of the article. There goes any chance of a brightened mood, he thought glumly. This day just could not get any worse.
The only thing he had to look forward to was meeting Jihoon's soulmate for the first time. Hopefully, he'd feel better by then.
His friends looked at him apologetically. "We thought you should know," Soonyoung said.
"What do I care?" Wonwoo answered. "This just helps me get rid of Mingyu." And it was true. If articles like this continued to be released, Chairman would most likely make Mingyu protect his image which meant taking Wonwoo out of the picture.
The other three all glanced at each other with a look that read He's in denial. Wonwoo ignored it. A few seconds late the bell rang and Wonwoo left them to their gossip.
Now that he was really paying attention, he could see people glancing at him every now and then. They all knew who the blurred face was. Forget people who really knew him. After the video, of course everyone in school would be able to recognize him.
