(Paul POV)

"It never stops, Dr. Hilsen! She just hit Gene in the nose, now asking to pay her to leave me wasn't right, but this is nuts, man. She could have walked away and found me. Let us two men talk everything else out. This relationship has been nothing but lies and drama. We find out we are having a little girl the day after she tells me she has b we I-polar. I can't date someone like Pam again, but there's another child. No matter how much I love her, the bitch is selfish," Paul said, as he turned around finding you on the bench.

He put his hand on his forehead, listening to the first available date he had for Paul to come in alone and one for the two of you to discuss the core problems in the relationship. The singer slowly turned around, seeing you sitting on a bench near the payphone with tears streaming down your face, and your mouth covered. Feeling his own stomach turn at the thought of everything he had just said and how much you may have heard, Paul quickly tried to end the phone call with the therapist.

"Doc, I gotta go. We have this trip planned and gotta pack up. Any date you have just get us on the books and have your receptionist leave it on the home answering machine." The singer said, slamming the phone on the hook.

He walked over to you slowly, attempting to brace himself if you ended up jumping up and smacking the singer in the face. Kneeling down in front of you, Paul put his hand on your knee, running it up and down your thigh, trying to calm you down. You looked down at him with tear-filled eyes, making the guitarist's heartbreak as he was doing everything in his power not to push you to your own breaking point.

"Y/N, what's the matter, honey?" Paul asked.

"I just can't get over how your best friend would try to pay me to leave you. Does he not realize that would hurt you and three other people? If you don't want this and you are using Gene to do your dirty work, then be a man and tell me right now. I would rather mend a broken heart for a few months, then live a life full of lies with someone that claims to want me as a wife." You replied, wiping the tears away.

Paul grabbed your hand and pulled you up to face him. Trying to hold back his own tears as he looked into your own hazel eyes, the singer wrapped his arms around you. Your tears dripped onto his shirt within seconds of Paul embracing you. He ran his hand up and down your back, while trying to soothe you in the middle of the department store. The situation making Paul feel more awkward knowing someone was just waiting to call a gossip column about what they had witnessed.

"Baby, I would never use Gene as a messenger for me. You know I say what's on my mind even if it makes things painful. You will be my wife one day soon and we can talk about that more on this trip. If you still want to go, that is?" Paul said.

"Of course I do. You bought all this stuff, and I figured you were on the phone just confirming everything." You replied, as you pulled away from him.

"You know me so well! That's exactly what I was doing, plus making sure your birthday surprise is already to go," Paul said, with a small grin.

The singer kissed your cheek before pushing the cart full of baby items and gear for the trip to the car. He glanced over, noticing you walking with your head down, looking at the ground. Paul stopped in front of the back of the SUV and grabbed your shoulders, making you look him in the eye. The two had a staring contest in the middle of the parking lot as Paul searched for answers that would help him fix the situation.

"Are you sure you are okay? I can take you home to rest before we load up tonight for us to leave for the cabin." the singer said.

"Cabin? That's where we are going?" You asked with a smirk.

"Oops! I wasn't supposed to say anything yet, but yes, when you said you wanted a vacation in the mountains, I knew the perfect spot," Paul replied, popping the trunk.

"Okay now I'm a little excited," You replied,

The two of you loaded the bags into the car, smiling back and forth when the other glanced your way. Just as they placed the last bag in the car, you moved to push the cart to the return slot. Paul smiled and crossed his arms, watching that you made it safely back to the SUV. The sound and feeling of his cell phone ringing pulled his attention away from you as he fished it out of his pocket. Groaning at the number running across the screen, and answered.

"Hello?" Paul answered

He leaned against his vehicle and listened to the other person on the line. You walked over to him holding your hands up, concerned the call was over Evan. Paul handed you the keys and motioned for you to get in, not wanting to miss any of the details being spit at him. The singer let out a deep sigh and then nodded his head.

"Can you give me two hours? I want to hear what else is involved, but we still are trying to get ready for Y/N birthday trip," The singer asked.

Paul looked at you through the back windshield, feeling guilt over taking him. He listened to the other man on the line for a few minutes and then hung up the phone. Sliding it back into his pocket and climbing into the car with you. You reached over and grabbed his hand, giving it a tight squeeze. The singer looked at you and smiled before flipping his sunglasses over his eyes. Knowing it would be better to tell you about the errand that might change everything for the two of you once Paul had you safely at home.
