A New Year with You

The whole entire kingdom was excited and active. Tonight in a few minutes would be the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year.

At the royal palace, Max and his friends were at the balcony, waiting for new year countdown to begin and for the fireworks too.

"Oh this is so exciting!" Spike said excited, jumping up and down as he and Twitch leaned on the balcony. "Yep! Another year of saving world, making new friends and lots of fun and amazing memories!" Twitch said proudly, twirling.

Max chuckled at his two best friends. But he was proud of both of them. Twitch had become a magic mage and Spike became the new royal chef, as well as both of them becoming honoray protectors of the Lion Kingdom. They've earned it. While they were not the strongest, they were the bravest and determined. They could've chosen to run away or stay back in the jungle. But Twitch and Spike choose to stand by their friend's side, support him in being king and fighting by his side throughout all the dangers.

He smiled at them both, seeing them the closest thing as brothers. The lion turned to Kara and Higgabottom as well as Tazer, Zinti, and Adira.

Kara had shown to be quite an amazing general while staying a true and loyal friend. Max was grateful of him staying behind many times in defending his home while he was away.

As for the owl, Higgabottom had served as Max's mentor as well as the closest thing to a father. His knowledge, inventions and wisdom had guided the young lion many times.

With Tazer, Max saw him as a younger brother and had helped Tazer in learning to be a king. He still couldn't believe that the prince was now king of the Arctic foxes. Although it had been a few months, Tazer was doing amazing while also offering his help with Max. As well as a good few challenges together.

Zinti, although still a young pup, had shown much potential of also becoming a magic ice mage. Despite being young, she had always soon so much bravery and determination as well as kindness.

Adira, now queen of the snow leopards as well as Tazer's wife, had also became part of their group. She had soon to be strong, enduring and fearless as well as having a powerful loyalty and love for her close ones, especially Tazer. Max found them to be a good couple as well amazing rulers.

"Bark bark!" Max heard some barking and noticed something jumping on his knee. He looked and saw Cotten barking at him excitedly. Chuckling, the king bent down, rubbing the dog's furry head. Cotton had also been quite a loyal companion, earning the title Royal Wind Howler. Max was especially grateful at the shape-shifting wolf always coming to Leena's aid.

Speaking of Leena, the lion saw from the corner of his eyes these long brown boots as well as tail with a tuft on like his and the tip of a brown braid.

Cotton looked at his direction and got excited at seeing caretaker. The dog ran to her, jumping on her leg. She chuckled, a sweet melody to Max's eara as he stood up, smiling at her, watching her pick up the puppy.

Leena noticed her husband staring and smiled at him lovingly. Her smile was like the sun to him. Warm, glowing and beautiful.

She walked towards him until she was at his side. Max didn't take his eyes off her as she joined his side. It had been one year of them being married. One year of her being queen. "You ready for the new year?" She asked him, running her hand gently through Cotton's snowy white fur.

"Yeah. Another new year coming. A new year to enjoy with you my queen" he told her gladly, staring into her hazelnut brown eyes that shimmered like gems. Shining like the crown she wore on her head.

However, when he said that, Leena's smile fell a bit in a frown and she set Cotton down. Max was surprised to see the sudden change in her mood.

The lioness looked at their friends to make sure they weren't listening and she looked at him. He saw worry in her face. "Max be honest with me please. This whole, entire year. Do you think I was a good queen?" She asked him unsure and nervous, her face turned away from him so she wouldn't have to look at him.

Being queen was no easy job. Leena always wondered if she even had the potential to be queen. There were times she doubted herself. Times she found it hard and got stressed out. She was lucky to have Max helping her and being there for her.

Then, she felt a soft touch turn her face to look up and she saw Max smiling at her warmly, caressing her cheek. It made her blush pink at him.

"Leena. You were amazing this year as queen" he told her confident and she stared at him surprised. He saw she was unconvinced but he couldn't blame her. Still, he knew her well enought to convince.

"I know that being queen is new and hard. But hey I felt the same way when I first became king. But what matters to me is I become my own king. And you became your own queen. A strong, noble, smart, determined, brave, beautiful..." he explained to her, the last part he teased her as he nuzzled her nose and she giggled at him. Honestly, Leena loved how he cheered her up.

Max the cupped her face, staring in her eyes. "...and kind" he finished smiling at her as she smiled back at him.

"It's starting!" Spike shouted excited, jumping up and down. The countdown was about to begin. Everyone got excited. Zinti picked up Cotton so he could get a view of the fireworks. Adira and Tazer held hands, smiling at eachother before turning to the sky.

"10...9...8..."

"Leena. If there's one thing I was happy about you being queen, it's that you stayed true to who you are and you led our kingdom by my side your way. You've always been by my side ever since we met. And I will always be side as your friend, companion, ally, king and husband" he told her, inching his face closer to hers.

"7...6...5"

"Max..." Leena whispered amazed by his words, blushing more. But she smiled at him lovingly, so happy to have him as her king and husband. She wrapped her hands around his neck as she stared at him.

"This year really has been an amazing one. And I was glad to spend all of it with you my king. And I looked forward to another year of being queen with you by my side Max" she told him, beaming at him as Max smiled at her.

"4...3..."

"I love you" she whispered to him, inching closer, her eyes half closed. "I love you too" he responded to her.

"2...1! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!"

Max closed the gap between and kissed her. The countdown was finished and fireworks were unleashed in the sky, illuminating it.

Kara let out a trumpet from his trunk in celebration and Higgabottom did a happy dance. Twitch and Spike held eachother's hands and spun around excitedly. Zinti hugged Cotton as the puppy howled. Adira pulled Tazer from his neck collar and pulled him in for a surprise kiss. The fox blushed surprised but he returned the kiss happily, cupping her face.

Max and Leena broke the kiss, smiling warmly at eachother. "Happy new year Leena" Max whispered to her, pushing back a strand of her brown hair behind. "Happy new year Max" she whispered back at him as she leaned into his arms, resting her head on his shoulder with a content smile as the two lions looked at the sky, admiring the firework show and looking forward to a new year together for a new adventure as king and queen.
