"Max, my boy. You should calm down. You're going to wear down the carpet."

Higgabottom chuckled as he watched the anxious King pace back and forth in the throne room. He could literally see his footprints forming right in the carpet. Max glanced down, surprised to see dark marks imprinted on the fabric. He smiled sheepishly at his old friend and advisor, who merely laughed softly.

"I thought you would be happy to see Leena returning from her visit to the white tiger kingdom." The old owl noted, finding it odd to see him anxious about his wife returning. He had been waiting a few days to see Leena return home and was too excited to sleep last night at the thought of reuniting with her.

"I am. But these royal trips are new for her, and it's her first one. What if something goes wrong on her way? What if someone ambushes her, and I'm not there to stop it?" He asked frantically, starting to pace again as the fear built up in him. There were many things Leena wasn't used to with being a queen, and Max wanted to help her adapt to it and make manageable and easy as possible. He understood the feeling, and it scared him that he wasn't there with her.

An assuring hand rested on his shoulder, stopping the lion from ruining the carpet any further. He turned his head to see Higgabottom smiling at him. "Leena is capable of looking out for herself. She will be fine. If something were to happen, she would've contacted you, so don't worry so much, my boy." He explained as the young king pondered his words, surpassing any nervousness that made him second thought his mentor.

The lion smiled at him, feeling the doubts and worries fade away as relief flooded him. "Thanks, professor." Max told him, having a good feeling that he would see his closest friend and wife return home to him safely.

"Hey, Max!"

The two looked up to see Twitch and Spike running in with excitement on their faces. "We just spotted the Phoenix arriving!" Twitch told them, pointing out to where they saw the ship. "She called us and said hi too!" Spike added, but Max was already running. He was too excited to let his friends finish their sentences.

Once he arrived outside, the air hit him hard against his face and mane, but he didn't mind. To him, it was Leena's way of saying she's home. Sure enough, the large massive aircraft was in front of him, and he saw something waving at him from the cockpit.

"Leena!"

He waved back at her, seeing that beaming smile of hers, even from this distance below. The ship landed with ease, not to his surprise as she was the best pilot in all of the Lion Kingdom. He hurried over to the entrance of the Phoenix, almost bounding in his steps like an eager cub. As it opened, he was met with the strong and independent presence of the queen of lions herself as she grinned at him.

"Hey, jungle boy!" She called out as he chuckled, more than pleased to hear her call him that old nickname. He didn't even wait to walk down that ramp. He ran up to her and scooped her in his arms, swinging her. "Welcome back, my lively lily!" He said to her, throwing her up in the air and catching her, missing the feeling of just holding her. It was like a child reuniting with their parent after they came back from a long trip

Leena laughed in, surprised. She had heard from their friends how worried he was about her being away in her first royal trip. She did find his reaction humorous yet sweet. Taking the moment to look into each other's eyes, the two shared a small kiss as Max set his wife back down on the ground.

"Wow! You are hugging and kissing me as if you haven't seen me in years. It was only a few days, Max." She reminded him, playfully ruffling his soft mane.

"Well, it feels like years." He told her, shrugging in a sheepish way as she shook her head with a smile. "Come on. We can make up the time with a nice snack, and then some good old sparring." She suggested to him as they walk back inside hand in hand. Something told her that Max would make sure they be together in all the upcoming royal trips. Not that she minded.
