The Lost Cub

Leena was walking back with Cottom by her side in the middle of the night here in the Lion Kingdom. The lioness had just finish helping her dad with the shop and was heading home.

Leena yawned and stretched her arms "I can't wait to get to bed" she told Cotton and the puppy barked in agreement making Leena chuckle at him.

Suddenly, Cotton's ears twitched at a soft sound that only he could hear and the puppy suddenly took off, surprising Leena. "Cotton where you going?" Leena asked puzzled and chased after her puppy.

Cotton ran and turned around into a corner. Leena caught up with him. "Huh?" Leena said surprised at what she saw.

Right in front of Leena was a little lioness cub with wild dark brown hair and she was sitting there, sniffling with her legs up to her chest, burying her face in her arms. Cotton stood there and looked at Leena, whimpering in worry.

Leena knelt down to the cub's height and smiled gently at her "Hello there. Are you lost?" She asked gently and the cub looked up to her, showing her big pink watery eyes and her tear stained cheeks.

The cub nodded to her yes "I was playing hide and seek with my friends sniff and I kept changing my hiding spots so I wouldn't get caught but now  I'm got lost sniff" the cub explained sniffing, her eyes watery about to unleash tears again.

Leena gently cupped the cub's cheek and her brush brushed off the tear stains. "What's your name?" She asked her gently. "Chelsea" she said, wiping her tear stains away. "I'm Leena. And this is Cotton. We'll help you Chelsea" she told her smiling and Cotton barked in agreement, wagging his tail.

Meanwhile, Max was jumping from roof to roof with binoculars in his hands, the lion scanning around. Max was helping a lioness find her missing cub. From what Max got, the cub was playing hide and seek with her friends but at the end of the game, she wasn't found and the mom began to worry.

Max looked through his binoculars and scanned down below. "Huh?" he said and saw through the binoculars Leena walking by with Cotton and she was carrying Chelsea on her back. Max lowered the binoculars and smirked at her. "Looks like someone beat me to it" he told himself before walking off.

Down below, Leena thought about bringing Chelsea to the palace and then finding her mom to pick her up.  Cotton kept running around the two, barking and jumping at them excited. Chelsea looked at Leena curiously.

"Hey Leena. Aren't you the lioness who helped King Max save our kingdom?" She asked, now recognizing the lioness. "Yep that's me. Max is my friend" Leena said chill.

Chelsea's eyes sparkled and she smiled excited "Wow! You're so lucky to be friends with the king. I bet you get to stay in the castle and wear pretty dresses" Chelsea said super fast and Leena chuckled at her.

"I sometimes stay at the castle but dresses...not my thing" Leena said. "But it is fun to be friends with Max. Not because he's the king. But because he's kind and brave and honestly isn't afraid to go save the kingdom multiple times" Leena said to Chelsea.

The lioness had to admit Max was different from all kinds of kings. He wasn't snooty or had bad judgment. He wasn't cruel or afraid or cared about power. Max was kind and fearless, always willing to listen and was never afraid to leave his kingdom to face danger.

"And you like him right?" Chelsea asked Leena and Leena blushed, getting nervous "Well I um well um...you can say that but as friends" Leena said nervously and Chelsea giggled at her.

"Don't worry your secret is safe with me" she assured her and Leena smiled at her.

"Chelsea!" A girl voice rang out and the two looked forward. Chelsea beamed happy "Mommy!" She yelled out excited. Max and a lioness was coming their way, the mother running to the two of them.

Leena handed Chelsea to her mom's arms and the lioness hugged her cub tightly "Oh Chelsea! I was so worried" she said relieved, rubbing her cub's hair. She looked at Leena and smiled grateful.

"Thank you. Thank you so much" she told her and Leena nodded to her smiling. Leena looked at Max and got surprised to see him.

"Max? What are you doing here?" She asked surprised and walked up to him. Max shrug relaxed "Well I was helping this mom look for her cub and it seemed you beat me earlier so I went to get her mom. Looks like you handldd that pretty well" he explained to her and Leena got surprised that he knew about it.

She smirked at him and placed a hand on her hip "I think if I can handle you Max, I can handle a cub" she told him teasingly and Max chuckled at her "Come on lets get home" he told her and the two went home.
