When your friend had mentioned a blind date, you were under the impression it would be with someone that was best suited to you. Howard Wolowitz was the furthest from your type, tight pants, novelty belt buckles and inappropriate jokes. You couldn't tell if he was nervous or genuinely thought he would be getting laid due to his jokes. Either way, you stuck it out, there was no need to cause a scene over a free meal with new people. It was oddly comforting knowing this date would be as a group. There was more people to bounce off when Howard's hand finds its way back to your body.

The group gathered around their usual table, all exchanging witty jokes and topics of conversation. Some questions were directed to you as they attempted to get to know you. Common questions like "where are you from?", "what do you do for a living?", "would you have said yes if you had known it was Howard?". A few backhanded comments from Sheldon mentioning that there was someone of Howard's intellect in the group. You rolled your eyes at his remarks, offering comfort to Howard in those moments. They poor guy may be a sleaze but he doesn't deserve to be spoken down to like that. He offered a warm smile in return, before turning back to his friends.

"What can I get you guys?" The waitress interjected, pulling out her pen and paper. Her eyes scanned the table and fell upon you. She was fixated on the new presence within the group, unsure on how to react.

"We have been coming here for years, shouldn't you know our orders by now?" Sheldon asked with a hint of disappointed, like he was scolding a toddler. The waitress side eyed the man before swiftly turning her attention back to you.

"I haven't seen you around before" she mentioned, clearly directing her comment towards you.

"Oh this is Y/N, she's Howard's date" Leonard mentioned, looking between the two women.

"A date? Good for you Howard" she smiled sweetly at him, genuinely happy for the engineer. "I'm Penny" she introduced herself, reaching out her hand. You happily accepted it, giving it a firm shake.

"Now that the introductions have concluded, can we get something to eat?" Sheldon waved his menu over the table, emphasising his question. Penny just scoffed at his behaviour before taking his order. Once the table was satisfied, she moved towards her next customers, leaving you alone with your date. A date that you wished to be on with Penny. There was just something about her that was alluring, she was pulling you in without any effort. You watched as Penny settled behind the bar, creating cocktails and taking orders.

"I'm going to the bar, does anyone want something?" You offered, hoping that they will all so no. Like clockwork they all commented a no thank you, resuming their light chatter. You strode towards the bar with confidence, hoping to catch the young girls eye. "Whiskey please" at the sound of your voice she spun around. She nodded before making your drink and passing it to you.

"How's the date?" She nodded towards the lively table, eyeing up the way Howard was talking to Bernadette.

"Good, just not what I expected" you shrugged your shoulders, taking a sip of your drink

"What do you mean?"

"We really don't have anything in common. I don't see there being a second date"

"You were out of his league anyway" she brushed you off, her comment catching you off guard. You were unsure of this reflected on what she thought of you or the people he has dated.

"Am I?" You cursed yourself at how you sounded, the confidence you once had slowly draining from your body.

"Oh totally, he had no chance with you" she stated as a matter of fact, like she's had this conversation with his dates before.

"Would I have a chance with you?" The words felt odd on your tongue, you sounded just like the scientists at the table. Penny's face softened as she lent on the bar.

"Depends on your next move" she was surprised to see you off your hand. She curiously placed her hand in yours, following promptly behind you. You led her towards the back, away from prying eyes and gossiping friends. You gently pushed Penny up against the wall, a gasp falling from her lips. You captured Penny's lips in a passionate kiss. Penny kissed back with ease, it was all she could think about from the moment she laid eyes on you. When air was needed, she placed her hands on your shoulders, guiding you backwards. "You definitely have a chance" she says between breaths, a content smile on her lips. Her smile matched yours as you both caught your breath. Then it hit you, your original date has basically been ditched.

"How do I break it to Howard?" You chewed on your bottom lip, afraid of what the engineer would say.

"Oh he won't care, just knowing his date left with a woman will be enough payment for him" she shivered at her comment, knowing full well that she would be starring in a few of his dreams. "I'll just grab my things" she pecked you on the cheek and ran off to collect her things. After taking a deep breath, you made your way back to the table.

"Thank you for the date. Just know there won't be a second but you'll definitely see me around more" you pulled out your wallet and placed money on the table. Enough to cover your drink and Howard's meal, the poor guy can have this on the house.

"Ready to go?" Penny appeared beside you, dressed in fresh clothes. The group shared a look around the table, some perplexed by the sudden change while some developed an understanding.

"Yeah, let's go" she grabbed your hand and pulled you out the door before you could ease their minds. You left the date thankful to your friend for setting this up. For leading you in the opposite direction of where you needed to be. Without them, you wouldn't have met the person you were supposed to met.
