Your friendship with Chloe was never simple, strong feelings pushed deep down to be revised at a later date. You were both well aware of the feelings between you two but never acted on it. There was an occasional flirty conversation but nothing more. So when Pierce swooped in and swept Chloe off her feet, it pushed you to fight harder for her affections. This left Chloe confused, she was pulled in two directions and she didn't know which one to choose.
You were more than ready to say the 3 words that Chloe desperately wanted to hear. You spent days building up the courage to verbalise them. You pulled her aside one day, deciding that today will be the big day. Chloe quickly followed behind you, her eyebrow raised at the sudden need to talk.
"(Y/N) what's the rush? Is everything okay?" Her eyebrow fell and her eyes filled with concern. You however were catching your breath, the rush and anxiety mixing into your ability to take in oxygen
"I just wanted to take this moment to tell you how I'm feeling" the words pushed their way through the long breaths you were taking. Watching her reactions, definitely wasn't helping the situation
"Please do not say anything. All right? It's just gonna make things more complicated" her hand gestures showed that she was final, there was no changing her mind. After all of this, your anxiety turned into anger. Your palms began to sweat and your heart began to race. How could she say that after everything that you two have been through? Something inside of you snapped, all you could be was snarky
"Like our friendship isn't complicated enough, right?" You dry chuckled, your eyes glued to the wall, you couldn't bear to look at the woman who broke your heart
"That's not what I meant" she stepped closer, extending her arm to gain closure. You immediately took a step back, Chloe drew her hand back, nestling it in her pocket
"I know" you offered a sad smile. "I think it's best if I leave you alone, just while you figure things out" you bowed your head and began to walk out of the room. You know what she was going through but you couldn't ignore your feelings. Her hand reaches out for you, gently holding on to your arm. You stopped, hoping she would say those 3 words.
"(Y/N) wait, don't leave" a small sigh passed your lips. You shrugged your arm out of her grip and continued to walk away. Chloe buried her face in her hands, disappointed in the way she handle this. Hopefully she can make the right choice.
