Swirling couples scattered the dance floor as they moved in unison to the music. A sense of confidence and pride as they spun their partners, blissfully losing themselves to the calming beats. The crowd watched on as they swayed to the music, lonely on the sidelines. Some hoping that someone would come and pluck them from the crowd and a love story would be born. For you, you just wanted someone to share the moment with, someone that would mirror your smile as you moved around the floor.

Katherine watched the dancers, rolling her eyes at the Founder's tradition. For she had lost the desire to share those moments, long ago. It wasn't until her eyes landed on you that her desire was reignited. The sad look upon your face was enough to draw her closer to you. She saw your eyes flicker with hope, a feeling that was long forgotten. She watched as you swayed to the music and how you yearned to be like the others. It took a moment before she was by your side. Her sudden appearance made you jump, of all the guests, you didn't believe she would reside next to you. You offered a quick glance at the woman next to you, trying to calculate her next move. Katherine was full of surprises, which always keeps you on your toes. A reassuring smile played on her lips as she held out her hand.

"Care for a dance?" She offered, her eyes never leaving yours. The gesture caught you off guard, leaving you staring longer than you should of. She sensed your shock, smirking at your reaction. She placed her glass of wine on the table before turning her focus to you. She gently caressed your hand, placing a soft kiss to your knuckles. "I won't bite" she mentioned, playfully snapping her teeth at you. She carefully guided you towards the dance floor, taking the role as lead. At first your feet took a few beats to catch up with Katherine's actions. Soon your mind and your feet were present in the moment. Your bodies moved in sync as she lead you through the couples.

For the moment, you forgot who she was, all the damage she has caused. She showed a side of vulnerability through her gentle moves and her piercing eyes. Trust began to build as you followed her lead and the room began to dissipate. All that was left was you and Katherine, the soft beats of the music and the overwhelming fear of falling in love. The romance swept you off your feet as you began to feel like a fairytale. It only strengthened when she spun you around, dipping you as she caught you. Caught in the moment, you could have sworn Katherine was inching closer. Without a second thought you closed the gap, her soft lips melting with yours. She ran her tongue over your lip, asking for permission, which you happily accepted. Your chest heaving when coming up for air, her kiss taking your breath away. Then the walls came crumbling down when all you could hear were whispers.

The room trickled it's way back in as you became hyper aware of your surroundings. Shared looks of shock and dismay covered the faces of the on lookers. You scrambled to your feet, pulling out of Katherine's grasp, only to run in the opposite direction. It was Katherine's turn to be in shock, standing dumbfounded in the middle of the room. All she wanted to do was chase after you, reassure your feelings. So that's what she did, she searched each room, hiding place and courtyard of the Lockwood Manor. Until she stumbled across you in a quiet corner of the garden. Without a second to waste, she sped to your side. This time you did not jump at her presence, more you welcomed it with open arms.

"I'm sorry about before" your eyes trained on the flowers around you. You couldn't bring yourself to look at her.

"No need. I understand why you ran" the tone in her voice was new, you couldn't quite put your finger on it. "I would've done the same thing if I was in your position"

"You would?" This gained your attention, your eyes finally aligning with hers.

"I'm Katherine Pierce, I'm not the one you'd want to take home to meet the family"

"You're more like the one most likely to eat my family" this earned you a low laugh as you playfully bumped her shoulder.

"The Salvatore's wouldn't approve of this behaviour. They were always hypocritical" she had already rehearsed what they would say, it would be the same speech she's heard a thousand times before. A few death threats thrown in and you would have their award winning speech.

"They can run their mouth all they want, it won't change the fact that I want to explore this" and for the first time since meeting Katherine, her eyes mirrored the hope she saw in yours.

"You do?"

"You can be very persuasive when you want to be" a smile weaved it's way to your lips, while a smirk took the lead on hers.

"Oh is that what you think that dance was? A persuasion technique?" She raised her eyebrow, curious to know if you thought that's all she had. After all, she does have the ability of mind compulsion.

"Maybe" you shrugged your shoulders, unsure of where this might lead

"Baby, I have other ways of persuading you, most are not appropriate for the dance floor" she sent a flirty wink your way. "Unless your into that" your cheeks turned a darker shade of red as your mind raced with the possibilities.

"Let's start by going on a date and seeing where that takes us" you tried to bring the conversation back from the gutter. It was the only way you would survive the evening.

"Deal" was all Katherine said before sealing it with a kiss. A kiss that left you wanting more, more than you thought was possible. All this started from a simple dance, you were excited to see what could start from a simple date.
