Children always have a sixth sense when it comes to people, places and the unknown. You knew from a very young age that the house next door was not one of comfort or stability. It was so much more. It was a place that has ghost within its halls and secrets hidden behind closed doors. There was an dark aura that surrounded the house, just the thought of it sent shivers down your spine. There was a dull ache in your stomach that would only grow stronger the longer you associated with that building. However you ignored your better judgement as you explored your curiosity. You were able to map out the house, survey the land and comfort the horrible feeling in your stomach. Your parents warned you of the house, telling stories of the past owners who all happened to leave in body bags. This didn't deter you, due to the deep connection you had with the house. In a way it was drawing you in, no matter how hard you fought it.
Over time, you learnt to ignore it, your curiosity began to fade and your interest went along with it. That was until a family of seven moved into the very house your parents warned you about. You decided to use this to your advantage, to further discover the house. It was a simple mission, search the house, question the family and ask about that goddamn red door. Sadly just like most missions, it never happens they you planned it.
You found yourself standing in front of the broken down house, slightly regretting your decision. You gathered all the courage you could muster and raised your arm to knock on the door. Knock, knock, knock. Your knocks sounded muffled as if the house had swallowed the sound. Before you had time to think, a young woman answered the door with a bright smile on her face. The woman didn't unnerve you at first but as seconds passed by, you began to feel uncomfortable under the woman's gaze.
"Hello there beautiful, what's your name?" She asked with sweetness in her voice. You took a deep breath, there was no turning back now.
"My name is (Y/N), I live in the house next to you and I just wanted to say hi" You gave the woman an awkward wave and she chuckled at the sight.
"Would you like to come in? I'm sure my children wouldn't mind a friend" She moved to the side for you to walk through. You simply nodded your head before moving your heavy feet through the door way. Even though you have seen the inside of this empty shell, it seemed to have more life now that the family was there. Like it was starved before it had a decent meal to digest. You could hear footsteps approaching the stairs, they belonged to the four children who were staring at you.
"Children I want you to meet someone, this is (Y/N), she lives next door to us"
A collection of "hello" and "hey" was directed at you as they all waved. You waved back at them before looking over to who you assume was the mother.
"Okay so, I have to get back to sorting the house. Why don't you kids go and have a good time" She smiled and lightly nudged you towards the stair case. You took a few steps over to the group, nervousness vibrating off you with every step. Once you were close enough, the two younger children took your hands and led you to their room. All of you were sitting down on the floor, laughing and getting to know each other. You were about to speak when you heard a voice behind you.
"What are you all doing in here?" the girl lent against the door frame with her arms crossed, observing what was going on.
"Who is that?" she questioned, motioning her head towards you
"This is (Y/N), she lives in the house next to us" Shirley moves her body so she is now facing the girl at the door
"Oh cool, I'm Theo and obviously you have met my crazy bunch of siblings" Theo walked closer to the group, before sitting down next to you
"Yeah, they are really nice, actually your whole family is" your smile was bright, observing the girl next to you.
As the days went by you became very close to the Crains, you thought of them as your second family. Olivia always welcomed you into the home with freshly baked goods and always offered a seat at the table for dinner. Hugh would help you ride your bike around the house and teach you a few helpful tips when fixing things. Steve would play video games with you and teach you all the cheats that you needed to know. Shirley was always there when you needed a good chat, she was full of advice and knew just what to say. Luke and Nell invited you to all their games, you were an honorary member of the twin club and you found a sense of pride in that. Then there was Theo, you two were inseparable, causing trouble wherever you went, pulling pranks on everyone. You had the most fun with her, there was never a dull moment between the two of you. You didn't want to hurt the others feelings but Theo was definitely your favourite Crain.
