Penny (Big Bang): Mixed Signals

A hesitant hand rapped at your door, peaking your curiosity. All your attention was directed towards the noise, unable to recall if you were supposed to have company. Shuffling your feet towards the door, you peaked through the peephole. Your eyes landed on Penny, who stood nervously on the other side. Letting out a deep sigh, you opened the door without hesitation. Before Penny could announce why she had appeared unannounced, you cut the silence.

"What are you doing here?" You finally took in her appearance, messy bun, crinkled clothes, tear stained cheeks. The past few days taken its toll on her physical and mental appearance.

"I needed to get away" her voice was soft, nerves getting the best of her. She fiddled with her fingers, twisting her rings.

"You can't keep showing up, every time you're unsure of Leonard" you scolded, it was the fifth time this month and you were over your heart being used as a yo-yo.

"I know" her eyes pouring into the basic carpet of the apartment building. She never attempted to make eye contact, knowing how she makes you feel.

"You're not just hurting him, you're hurting me too" you're practically pleading with her. This needed to stop, this isn't healthy, being caught in the middle was the worst place to be.

"I know"

"If you know so much, why do you keep doing it?!" Frustration flowed through your words, you practically stopped your foot at the idea. Her eyes finally snapped towards you, deeply looking into yours.

"I had to figure out what to do, what I wanted" she shuffled closer to you, closing the once big gap between you. You made no effort to move, as if all your energy had been drained.

"And that is?" Doubt began to creep into your thoughts, how could you possibly compete with Leonard? He's smart, earns good money, has a heart of gold. What did you have? A shitty apartment, average wage and yearns over their friends girlfriend. All you wanted was for Penny to say your name, to choose you. Moments passed by as you waited for the words to fall from her tongue.

In barely a whisper, she made her decision, "you". You became breathless, all you could hope was that she meant it, that she truly meant it.

"Don't play me Penny, my heart can't take it"

"It's you, it always has been. I couldn't accept my life with Leonard because I pictured it with you. I'm so sorry it took me so long to figure it out. I'm sorry I played with your emotions, just to come to the decision that I knew I was going to make. I -" you couldn't care for her rambling, she had chosen you. She had confessed her feelings, in front of you. A moment that was a distant dream now turned reality. Cutting her off, you placed your lips on hers. Lips that fit so perfectly against hers. It all made sense, planets aligned and balance was restored. After a moment of catching your breath, you invited her inside. It was about time you pulled her through the threshold as something more. Tonight was yours, tomorrow was a day for your future selves to handle. A night spent content and calm after a month of chaos and mixed feelings.
