Once we're a bit more settled down, Soren plays with Ezran and Zym. It's adorable. But I catch up with Rayla and we share information from our time apart. Her adventures a bit more exciting than my own.
But she tells me about how she and Callum when through the Silvergrove. Apparently she was a 'ghost', but still told Ethari that I was alive, it made me beyond thankful. But that also felt like an okay time to bring up what happened the Runaan.
Her face fell at the statement. We were in the middle of an embrace when Callum walks in. Rayla slackens her grip, walking over to her boyfriend.
We talked for a while about that too.
"Hey, Callum! Learn any new sky spells?" She questions.
He doesn't smile. "No, but I got some advice," he tells us. Dispirited. "He says we should leave."
I stare at him. "Leave?" Rayla and I ask simultaneously.
"I think... maybe he's right," Callum comments. "Every choice we have made so far as been to keep Zym safe... so maybe leaving is the right thing to do."
Honestly, I don't know what to think... but Rayla does.
"Yes, I agree," she states.
"I'm good to go with the flow," I notify them. It's true. And I think Soren would agree.
"Okay," he says, "I'll go tell Ezran and Soren," he turns around but Rayla cuts in.
"But... I'm not going with you guys."
"What?" Callum and I reply.
"You guys should take Zym," she tells us, "but I can't leave. All of this happened because my parents ran away. I have to stay and defend the Dragon Queen."
Callum walks up to her and I suddenly feel like it will become private, very quickly. I speak up before he can. "I think I'll go find Soren and Ezran," I say, "But first, Rayla..." I walk over to her, putting my hands on her shoulders. "What happened in the past is not your fault," I urge. "And the truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive your parents, unless you forgive that whole situation and unless you realise that, that's over... you won't be able to move forward." She smiles slightly, and I hope the words help.
"Always the wisest," she smiles, but the gesture doesn't reach her eyes.
"Think on it," I add, walking away to find the commotion.
But as soon as I see them running around playing, I forget about it all.
I'm in the now, and now, it seems as though Soren needs to be put in his place with a game of chase.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After sunset, Callum calls everyone in for a meeting.
Rayla spoke to both Soren and I, surprisingly, about what Callum found out happened to her parents. I think she partially wanted to prove to Soren what his father can do, which is a bit cruel, but she got the point across.
For about 20 minutes after she told us, he kept on frantically asking himself why he listened to him all this time.
I didn't know what to say or do that would help, so I just hugged him. Reassuring him that he stopped following his father and that is enough.
He smiled thankfully at me.
But when Callum starts speaking, everyone's faces are devoid of emotion. "Here's our situation," he announces, mainly to the people sitting on the steps in-front of him. Soren sits back in the corner by the wall, nervous. I stay near him, but seat myself on the top step. "Viren is coming here for Zym, and he's leading an army of monsters."
