Lily quickly stood up and pulled Allie up along with her as James came stomping through the back door. Throughout Melissa and James' argument they had been sat on the Kitchen floor out of sight and listening to every single word that the pair had said. It had been a very nasty break up.

Allie took in James' expression and he looked incredibly angry, but he also seemed a little relieved and Allie couldn't understand why. Surely he was a little upset that their relationship had ended? Lily gave her a wary look as he leant against the Kitchen counter. She busied herself with casting a spell to wash their dinner plates to make it seem like they hadn't been listening to their conversation, but she knew that James would know. He could read her like an open book.

"If you two think that I don't know you were listening then you really don't know me at all." James rolled his eye's at the two of them as he sat down at dining room table. Allie sighed a little, she knew that he would know and now she felt incredibly guilty. They shouldn't have been listening.

"We're sorry James." Lily gave him a sympathetic look and sat down at the dining room table at the side of him.

"I think I should be the one apologising, this is all my fault James. Maybe I could talk to her and change her mind, it's not-" Allie started but she abruptly cut off.

"There's no need Al, it's ok. I think it's been coming for a long time and it's my fault more than anyones." James stopped her with a shrug of his shoulders.

"But why is it your fault?" Lily asked him.

"I've been the worst boyfriend Lily, the moment Eva was murdered this case has been all that i've thought about. I made keeping Allie, Izzy and Eliza my priority, which is part of my job but I also used it as an excuse not to see Melissa. The relationship wasn't right anyway." James explained, sighing again. He looked so deflated.

"Any girl who dates you James should know that being with you also means bowing down to the job. This is why none of your relationships have worked since....well you know." Lily tried to comfort him, but Allie couldn't help but notice the glance that Lily threw in her direction. Allie frowned at her words, since who? What were they talking about?

"Since what?" Allie couldn't help but ask, curiosity getting the better of her. James and Lily looked at each other and then he looked at her and laughed a little.

"She's talking about you Allie. You were the only girlfriend i've ever had who thoroughly supported my career before i'd even started." James explained, a small laugh escaping his mouth as if he was laughing at the irony of it all.

"Oh....well I think that's what a good girlfriend should do. I suppose if none of them have then they weren't the right relationships for you." Allie shrugged. Then she began to wonder...how many girlfriends had he had?

"You're right there Allie...if only there was the perfect person staying in the same house as you." Lily looked between Allie and James like they were mad.

"Lily." Allie laughed, shaking her head and grabbing a glass of water. Deep down she knew that she wished James would step up and say he loved her but she wasn't even sure if he felt the same.

"You're relentless Lil." James laughed along.

"I don't think i'll stop until you make Allie my sister in law." Lily shrugged, a mischievous grin on her face.

"Right too far, i'm going to tell Mum and Dad the news." James quickly stood up and walked through to the front sitting room.

"Don't you dare lie to me Alivia, I can see it in your eyes!" Lily turned to Allie, pointing a finger at her and giving her an accusing look.
