The morning finally came and I heard through my eavesdropping that Dwight was told to go. Every entrance to the house had soldiers standing guard. Sadly making them leave only meant the house, but they remained at the entrance to the house. But We were free to move about. I left through the  back to meet with Dwight.

"They let you go." I breathed a sigh of relief

"Finally. Now I must go to Caroline. Pray God she'll understand." he grabbed the reigns

"Of course she will." I assure her

"And Ross?" he wonders

"There's no sign of him. I can't conceive where he would be." I glance around hoping to have an idea

"not in the cache at any rate." he commented

"You won't forget us?" I hoped and he glanced back at me

"Never." He rode back and I headed back inside and brought Henry and Rebekah Grace in my arms. I held them close and prayed that this would soon be over Demelza and Prudie were making up some kindling

"He must have made it to the library." I say "The table had moved and the rug. But if he had no time to open the cache..." I trailed off

"Where could he be?" Prudie wondered. We heard talking. "Soldiers." Demelza and Prudie went to see what was going on

"It looks like they're leaving." Demelza tells me.

Nothing happened the rest of the day. I looked out onto the meadows and tried to keep up spirits in front of the children. It grew dark once more and as the children slept upon the long chairs. I lit the candles for the evening.

"His hand was all bloody. I can't stop thinking about it. What...? What if it's worse than he thought? Or what if he's lying bleeding to death somewhere." I voted

"Hush, maid. Don't think such a thing." Prudie assured. Rebekah Grace woke up. I stopped what I was doing and picked her up and sat down rubbing her back.

Demelza signing

Rebekah Grace was lulled back to sleep and I looked up from her small figure. There in the door way stood Ross.

"Ross." I breathed making my way over to his embrace. He was safe and home, that is all i could have wished for.
