Before taking the train to Wedgehurst to pretend to receive her first Pokémon, Heather bought red hair dye and yellow contact lenses from the No. 1 Pharmacy near the hotel. She replaced her obviously Orrean P★DA with a Rotom Phone. Her fake ID arrived the previous day. Her name was Garnet Qadir. She just moved to Galar from one of Orre's neighbouring regions, Elemar.

As Garnet, she didn't need to worry about looking interested in the passing scenery. She could take photos. In fact, she needed to be seen doing so, because it would make her look like a real tourist. As she photographed the passing industrial skyline of Motostoke, the distinct scent of a woodlands-inspired perfume wafted by. Its wearer, a young woman with a carefully-styled mop of tea green curls and matching eyes, rushed to the toilet for the fifth time.

They both disembarked in Wedgehurst. Heather already checked the map, but she pretended to squint at her phone in confusion anyway. Then she turned to admire the rustic station, its moss-covered roof, glowing Macro Cosmos Rail logo and carefully cared-for hanging baskets; the cobbled streets that climbed rolling hills and finally, the ancient half timbered frontage of the Pokémon Research Lab. This really was interesting. She successfully took on many identities, from celebrities to lost Fallers, back in Orre. Now she was living another life in an entirely new world, where she didn't even have to fake her fascination.

It was impossible to miss the lab. The route from the station was straight and flat. Heather saw two kids in school uniforms, who boarded a connection from Hulbury in Motostoke, excitedly rushing there without even glancing at a map. The girl with green hair glanced nervously around.

'You looking for the lab?'

'Oh! Um... yeah...'

'It's right there.'

'Oh! Oh... right in front of me. Right. I swear, my sense of direction is so bad, Leon Fayed would get there before me...'

Heather was actually Leon's great-granddaughter, because her father was Amber's son. She wondered if she would hear that she looked like him, especially with her yellow contact lenses, but that girl wasn't paying attention. She was focusing on the lab. She looked relieved when Heather walked that way.

'So? You about to get a Pokémon?'

'Yes! Are you?'

'Yeah.'

'Will you be doing the Gym Challenge? Where are you from? You have, like, a cowboy accent!'

'I'm from Neon City. You?'

That wasn't entirely untrue. Heather spent some of her earliest years in Neon City while her mother studied there.

'Wow! The place with all the casinos? I'm from Wyndon. Do you have a Pokémon already?'
