Chapter 96: The King's Advisor

The situation on the ground, at least, calmed with the closure of the Ultra Wormhole. The same couldn't be said for the castle. Despite the crowd of Grunts who turned in exchange for Heath's autograph, most of them fought. Their enemies struggled to get through to rescue any Pokémon remaining in the royal tower before it toppled. The Poipole that returned from Ultra Megalopolis with Volo's family frantically gathered and clung to the few precious possessions belonging to Pluto, Rigel and Muirne: books, photo albums, Pluto's football kit and the contents of the bag that Rigel arrived in Galar with.

There were boxes of Poké Balls in the dungeon. Luna and Casper began to open them before rolling the boxes out. They were looking for Allister's Gengar. It was confirmed that they were Shadow Pokémon with the unfortunate revelation that Allister could see their auras. There were too many to be the ones snagged by the Lost Kids. Jahzeel probably thought Pluto wouldn't sense the auras if he kept them in the dungeon, or perhaps he kept them there because he knew their presence would cloud Pluto's mind.

Acerola shook her head. 'Gengar's not here... someone must be using him...'

'Didn't they say there was a Purify Chamber?' Luna asked, 'That must be where the Lost Kids kept the ones they snagged. Could he be there?'

'I doubt it, but we need to check it out anyway...'

Believing that Jahzeel was locked up at the police station, Reira and Lien rushed off to the castle. They were already evacuating Pokémon and a clueless scientist, who truly believed he only served Pluto, from the Purify Chamber connected to the lab from which the Ultra Wormhole was opened. Gengar wasn't there. They did, however, find Volo in the Purify Chamber, trying to purify his Garchomp, Lucario, Spiritomb, Roserade and Hisuian Arcanine before he was either arrested or the Purify Chamber was destroyed. He was apparently successful. He rushed out again.

'Excuse me, excuse me!'

Luna almost collided with him.

'Where is my Togekiss?'

'I – I don't know! Reira! Lien! It's Volo!'

'We know! We must evacuate these Pokémon! Where are the local cops?! Someone arrest him!'

Luna lunged at him, but he ducked and sprinted off. Togekiss took off from Jahzeel's window in the royal tower, dropped two people on the ground and returned to Volo, who promptly took off again.

'Reira! Reira, it's Triton!'

Her earpiece was turned up to full volume so she could hear it over the chaos.

'A Dynamax Guzzlord ate the police station – and the sheriff! Jahzeel escaped!'

'What?!'

'I'm sorry... I couldn't do anything... he wiped the floor with me... Calyrex attacked me... the place was gone by the time I could stand up... I caught Guzzlord and got the sheriff out, but...'

'It's not your fault! Why are they so useless?!'

She turned the dial to address everyone.

'Someone catch Jahzeel! Volo is out there, too! He took off on his Togekiss!'

'Attention!'

Pluto's voice echoed through the castle.

'This is an order from the king! Surrender!'

'No!'

Jahzeel's voice screeched over his.

'The king has lost his mind! Do not surrender!'

'I have not! Jahzeel is a liar! He conned us all! He's battling with Shadow Pokémon, right now, in front of me! He admitted that I'm not his grandson at all! But I am the king and I order every one of you to surrender! Help the International Police and Lost Kids evacuate the Pokémon!'
