I'll probably leave little notes before the chapters for clarification on the characters' lives. I don't need to do that in this chapter cause Jay is just Jay in this universe :)
Jay
After Fire had run off Jay was left to put up with Ice's scolding. He knew that Ice was just doing what he thought was best for the team, but at the same time it was kind of frustrating. It wasn't like they had all the time in the world, they had lives outside of the mask. Jay continued to listen to the Ice ninja.
"Listen, Ice. I know what I did was reckless, but you need to cut me some slack. I have a life outside of this job too you now." Jay said to the man in the white gi.
The white ninja sighed, "You're right Lightening. I apologize for my rudeness, but I just want you all to understand the risk of going solo. Lightening, if Fire hadn't intervened you could've been hurt or killed. Just...be careful." Ice replied.
Jay nodded as Ice turned to talk to the officers that had come to grab the shooters. Jay sighed and walked through the school until he came to the restroom. He quickly changed and headed to his class.
The reason he had been so early to the shooting was because he had been late for school. He had seen the police enter the building and had quickly taken action. When he saw Kai Smith standing in front of a shooter, he did the only thing that came to mind. Take action. He didn't really know the guy, but when he had first arrived at school he was bullied. Kai shoved the bully to the wall and threatened him. No matter how much he hated to admit it, he owed the dude.
Jay walked into his classroom and put a wide grin on his face. "I have arrived!" He exclaimed to the teacher. The teacher looked like he wanted to slap himself in the face, but he gently gestured for Jay to take his seat. The other students giggled. Jay just smiled and listened to what was being taught for literature.
During lunch break Jay had been trying to find Cole, his best friend. Like yeah, Cole was super popular, but that didn't mean he wouldn't hang with his buddy. Cole and Jay had been friends since middle school, and he doubted that'd change. Unfortunately, a teacher had pulled him out of the way and had made a conversation with him during lunch, so he never had the opportunity to find Cole.
The bell rang and Jay rushed over to the doors where he saw Cole doing his best to not get squished in between the crowd. Jay laughed and Cole glared at him.
"A little help?" Cole asked with pleading eyes.
"Oh my god Cole. You need to learn to just tell them no." Jay replied as he turned to the crowd. "Scram losers! Give the guy some space, you have the rest of the day to bother him AFTER school!" Jay yelled through a microphone he had pulled out of his backpack. Cole raised an eyebrow and questioned him with his eyes. The crowd of people groaned but slowly dispersed.
Cole smiled in relief and hugged Jay, "Thank god!" Cole sighed. Jay laughed and put his microphone away.
"Where do you get all of that stuff anyway?" Cole asked curiously.
"You'd be surprised at what you can find in a junkyard." Jay answered with a silly grin.
"I don't want to know." Cole replied.
Jay laughed and elbowed Cole, "Common man, lighten up. The sun is shining and there are ladies and gentlemen all around for the taking!" Jay laughed.
Cole shook his head and smiled. "I should never have told you I was gay." Cole whispered.
Jay overheard and grinned. "Too bad, plus you can't keep anything away from me." He answered with a smug look.
"Maybe not-" Cole began with a thoughtful expression, and then he smiled mischievously. "Maybe I can-" He added with a smirk.
Jay gasped and faked a horrified expression, "Who's the lucky boy?" He asked curiously. Cole turned red and slapped a hand over Jay's mouth.
"There's no boy. At least not yet." Cole replied carefully.
"Alright, fine I believe you." Jay said, they both fell silent.
"So... how's it going with a certain someone? Did you have the guts to ask her out yet?" Cole asked with a smile.
Jay blushed, "S-shut up." He answered.
Cole laughed, "Alright how about when my birthday comes up in three months, we have a group trip to go camping. I'll invite the whole gang. That'll give you plenty of time to ask Nya out." Cole proposed.
Jay sighed, "It's no use, man. She'll never like me back." Jay pouted.
"You never know unless you ask her." Cole replied. Then Cole punched Jay's shoulder.
"Ow! What was that for?" Jay asked with a glare.
"That was to lighten the mood, idiot. Now let's get to class. We don't want to be late." Cole answered.
Jay laughed with his friend as they headed to their math class. Jay wasn't the best at math, in fact he almost failed every one of his tests. He always found himself staring into space or looking out the window.
Once school was over Jay found his bike and started pedaling his way home. He lived about fifteen minutes away from school which wasn't bad, but it still took time. Riding his bike brought the time down to seven minutes. He had slept in this morning due to his usual "Game til' Midnight" motto. Jay knew he needed to start going to bed earlier, but how could he? Gaming was the best thing in the universe, and he could do it uninterrupted at night!
Once Jay got home, he parked his bike outside the trailer. He looked around the junkyard and sighed, his dad must be inside. Well, his "Step-dad" I guess you could say. He had found out he was adopted a few months ago. It was sad, but he still thought of Ed and Edna as his real parents, because well...they raised him. He walked inside the trailer.
"Mom? Dad? I'm home!" Jay called from the kitchen. Jay opened a cabinet and grabbed a bag of chips. Edna walked in with a smile and kissed his forehead, "Welcome back dear, your father is napping so try to keep it down will ya? Love you, Jay." She whispered. Jay smiled and walked over to his room in the back of the trailer. Clothes were strewn all over the floor and his bed was a mess. His controller and console sat on the floor as if begging him to play them. Jay grinned and threw his pack onto his bed, he plopped onto the floor with his chips and started playing Prime Empire.
It was only a half hour later when Jay heard something beeping, he dug into his backpack and pulled out his mic. He heard Lloyd online and smiled while stuffing his mouth full of chips.
"What's up Greenbean?" He asked into the mic. He quickly answered Lloyd's question and then set his mic down. The others might be active later, so might as well keep it handy. Jay picked his controller back up and continued his game. About two hours later his mic buzzed and Jay looked down, he quickly pressed the receive setting and the message came through.
"All Ninja meet me on Central Avenue in the alley behind the salon. We have a mission." Earth said through the mic.
Jay heard the others reply through their mics and he quickly turned his on, "I'll be there in ten minutes." Jay replied. Then he turned his mic off and quickly grabbed his gi. "Here we go again." He muttered.
