Chapter 35

Nya

Nya slowly opened her eyes. It was dark all around and she had to blink a few times for her eyes to adjust. She looked around and realized she was in a cage. From the looks of it, it was venge- stone. Nya sighed and tried to move, but she was locked up. Chains bound her wrists and ankles.

"What the- what happened?" Nya asked aloud. She thought back over what she last remembered, she remembered opening the gate when she saw- Nya scowled. 

"I fell right into his trap." Nya muttered. "How could I be so stupid?" She asked herself. Nya studied her surroundings, trying to find something...anything that could possibly get her out. Nya sighed when she realized that her situation was hopeless. 

"I hope the others are faring better than I am." Nya whispered.

Nya sighed when her stomach grumbled. "Fuck." She cursed.

Nya inched over to the back of the cage and laid her head against it. She closed her eyes and frowned when a tear rolled down her cheek.

"They're not coming for you." 

Nya whipped her head around, looking for the source of the words. "Show yourself!" Nya shouted.

Nya's eyes widened when a figure walked to the front of the cage and smiled down on her. 

"Alptraum..." Nya growled. "They will come for me, and we will beat you." Nya added.

Alptraum chuckled, his voice was dry, and it sounded more like a screech than a laugh.

"You misunderstand Nya." Alptraum stated. Nya froze when she heard her name, causing Alptraum to smile all the more. "Your friends are on their path to death." He added.

Nya felt a presence reach into her mind and she groaned when a sharp pain shot behind her eyes. Then she saw a picture forming. She saw Zane being dragged in chains. The picture shifted and she saw that Cole was hurt and bleeding. "What did you do?" Nya demanded.

"It's a practical strategy. You separate and dominate. Quite simple really. Your friends were quite willing to split up in order to find you." Alptraum answered.

Nya looked down to the floor in anguish. 

"You call yourselves ninja, yet you fall for the basic traps. You let Ninjago fall. You have failed." Alptraum stated. 

Nya glared up at him, "We will end you, you monster! The other three can still kill you." Nya shouted.

"No... you can't kill me. I am a god. You came here with the foolish hope of destroying me. I cannot be killed by you mere mortals. I am a nightmare; I reign in the minds of all humans! Killing dreams. Ruining reality. Destroying hopes." Alptraum stated.

Nya looked at Alptraum in shock. Then her face straightened, and she did her best to keep it that way. "Who can kill you then?" Nya asked.

Alptraum laughed. "I thought you would've figured it out by now. I've gotten inside all of your heads, except one. Who was the only one among you that said they had heard me, but never mentioned a nightmare?" Alptraum asked.

Nya thought for a moment. Then realization hit her. "Kai." She answered.

Alptraum smiled, "Yes, there's a reason I wouldn't let him go on the mission with you." Alptraum stated.

Nya pretended she didn't hear. "Why is he the only one who wasn't effected?" Nya asked hesitantly.

"You can't bring to life a nightmare that's already happened. His whole life has been a nightmare from the moment he was born. This life is his nightmare...and he's already in it. Therefore, he is immune to my powers, making him..." Alptraum stated.

"The only one who can kill you." Nya finished.

Alptraum smiled wickedly, "Or a powerful ally." Alptraum added.

Nya froze. "He will never join you!" Nya yelled.

"We'll see...we'll see." Alptraum muttered. "Now if you'll excuse me. I have some business to attend to." He added.

Nya growled as he turned and walked away. When he left Nya slumped back and fought back tears. Her will soon broke and the tears raced down her face as if being drawn to the floor.

Minutes passed and soon she heard a loud bang which made Nya jump. For the first time she saw a cage on either side of her. They were empty.

Nya saw Zane being dragged into a cage with chains binding his wrists and ankles like her. Then Cole was dragged in with cuts and bruises all over. 

"Zane! Cole! Wake up shitheads, we have to get out of here!" Nya shouted at them. Cole stirred and Zane slowly lifted his head. "Kai's in danger!" Nya added. Cole shot up and frowned when he saw their current situation. Then Zane fully woke and also began taking everything in.

"Nya, what do you mean Kai's in danger?" Cole asked urgently.

Nya sighed and began telling them everything that happened.
