Cole
The moment Cole woke up he knew something wasn't right. Unless he was listening to himself internally snore, which didn't seem logical whatsoever.
Cole slowly sat up, almost afraid to look, the sun shone through the window so he should have no problem seeing who was sleeping. Cole looked around and saw a form sleeping on his desk.
"Kai?" Cole asked out loud. A million questions went through Cole's head as he stared at Kai who was sleeping peacefully. Cole got out of bed and walked over to get a closer look. A pencil was on the floor and Kai's sketchbook sat next to him. Cole glanced at it and noticed how much progress Kai was making on the dragon. Cole glanced back at Kai's sleeping face and smiled. Contrast to Kai's hard attitude, he looked really calm and peaceful when he was sleeping. Cole chuckled, "Cute." He muttered. Cole stood up straight and walked into his closet to change.
When Cole walked out of the room he glanced at his watch and took a sharp breath. "Fuck we're going to be late." He swore.
Cole walked over to Kai and nudged him. "Kai we gotta go." Cole stated as he gently pushed Kai.
Kai shook his head and slowly opened his eyes. Kai looked up at Cole in confusion then his mind came back to him. "Oh my god Cole, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep!" Kai cried as he jumped out of the chair and started grabbing his stuff.
Cole laughed, "Hey, it's fine." Cole said with a smile, then he looked around. "How did you get in here anyway?" Cole asked suddenly.
Kai froze and looked down. "Ummm." Kai murmured. He was still frozen in place and Cole noticed that he had started sweating.
"Was my dad mean to you?" Cole asked with a sigh.
Kai shook his head, "Not really...but, I gotta admit he's not the best parent I've met." Kai stated matter-of-factly.
"You sure have gotten that right." Cole muttered. "Did he let you in?" Cole asked as he looked out the window. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Kai take a deep breath.
"Yeah. It took some persistence, but he ended up letting me in. At first he thought I was a fanboy or something." Kai lied.
Cole could tell Kai was hiding something, but he didn't push it. "Alright well we better get going, the others are probably waiting for us by now." Cole stated.
Kai nodded and turned to the door. "Um should I open it?" Kai asked.
Cole laughed, "Um yeah. I'll be out in a sec I'm going to grab my stuff." Cole answered with a smile.
Cole walked over to grab his backpack and then headed out the door to follow Kai. Cole saw Kai gaping at his surroundings. "You live in this?!" Kai exclaimed in awe.
Cole chuckled. "Well yeah, though to be honest I would prefer a smaller place. I'm probably going to move out soon." Cole replied with a shrug.
Kai looked at him like he was insane. "Why would you want to leave?" Kai asked in confusion.
Cole managed a small smile, "It's too big and too quiet." Cole answered.
"And your dad?" Kai murmured.
Cole nodded sadly and started walking down the stairs. "What about you?" Cole asked.
Kai looked down, "Heh, I'm probably not getting out of Mrs. Shina's apartment anytime soon, so I have no idea." Kai answered with a small laugh. Cole could easily tell the laugh was fake.
"Um well if you're ever looking for a roomie my door's always open." Cole stated.
Kai nodded. "Noted." He replied as he began walking after Cole.
They both walked out of the house and started on their way to the restaurant. Cole glanced over at Kai who was walking with his forehead pointing to the ground.
"Um I know this is a weird question, but can I get your number? That way we can stay in contact. I mean you are part of our friend group now." Cole asked.
Kai laughed, "Yeah about that. I don't have a phone." Kai answered.
Cole stared at Kai for a second then sighed and looked ahead. Then an idea popped into his head, "If you want you can have one of my old phones? They still work, technically." Cole offered.
Kai smiled sheepishly, "Thanks, but that's ok. Mrs. Shina wouldn't allow it anyways." Kai replied.
Cole looked at Kai sadly as if wanting to say something. "Alright Hair-gel." Cole stated.
Kai glanced at Cole with an eyebrow raised, "What did you just call me?" Kai asked.
"Nothin." Cole answered with a mischievous smile. Cole began to walk faster.
"Oh no you don't." Kai yelled as he ran after Cole. Cole saw Kai running towards him and quickly broke into a run to avoid the boy.
After a few minutes Cole stopped to catch his breath just to find Kai jump on him and wrestle him to the ground.
"Get off me!" Cole exclaimed as Kai pinned him down.
"Not until you swear you won't call me hair-gel again." Kai growled; however, Kai was smiling like he was enjoying it.
"Ugh fine! I swear." Cole pouted.
Kai smirked and let Cole go. "See that wasn't too hard." Kai stated.
Cole laughed as Kai helped him to his feet. "How the hell is someone so scrawny and thin so strong?" Cole asked.
Kai smiled, "That's for me to know. Now let's go. I wanna get this day over with." Kai said with an annoyed tone. Cole grinned and followed Kai as they walked into the restaurant. Kai hesitated, but Cole grabbed his arm and pulled Kai with him as they walked to the back of the place.
"Hey guys." Cole yelled as he let go of Kai's arm. The others waved them over.
"Hey Cole!" Lloyd exclaimed, he looked at Kai as if he wanted to say something but apparently changed his mind.
"Hey Kai, glad you decided to join us." Nya welcomed as she gestured for Kai to sit. Kai walked over with a shrug and plopped into an empty seat.
"It wasn't really much of a choice because Cole practically forced me to come, but why not?" Kai stated as he looked at Nya. He studied her for a minute but shook his head.
"What?" Nya asked him.
Kai shook his head, "It's nothing...you just remind me of someone." Kai answered as he looked down.
Cole sat down next to Kai and folded his arms. "Ok so what's the plan for today?" Cole asked. Everyone instinctively looked to Lloyd.
Lloyd stared at them in return, "What the fuck ya'll looking at me for?" He stated, acting offended.
Everyone laughed after a moment of awkward silence. Then a lady walked up and greeted them, "What can I get you lot to drink?" She asked kindly.
Lloyd looked up at her and smiled, "Root beer please." Lloyd answered. The woman nodded and wrote it down.
"I'd just like a water with lemon." Zane stated with a smile.
"Can I get one of your green teas?" Nya asked. The lady nodded.
Cole shrugged, "I'll get Dr. Pepper." Cole declared. The lady wrote it down and looked at Kai.
Kai shook his head, "Um...it's ok I don't need anything." Kai said nervously.
"Kai, get whatever you want. We'll pay for it. Plus, I'm rich so it ain't a problem." Cole whispered with a wink at Kai.
Kai nodded at him gratefully. "I'll get a Dr. Pepper as well." Kai stated with a small, but genuine smile. The woman nodded and walked away to fetch their drinks.
Ok, I know...this is going so slow. But I promise I'm getting to the drama and action. I'm having trouble filling in the events leading up to the action which is why it's taking so long. Please be patient with me (TwT)
