Tommy's POV:

It's funny how I mentioned 3 am, because I woke up at 3 am that night. And whilst laying awake, looking at a half painted ceiling and hoping I might just pass out, I decided now was a better time than ever to test whether Phil truly did have that quality.

His door was open because he always left it open. It was simply how he slept. "Phil?" I whispered quietly. He jolted from sleep which made me flinch backward.

"Hey mate." He said sleepily, yawning before beginning to sit up. "What's up?"

"I uh, can't sleep."

"Okay, did you want to have a hot drink or is there something on your mind?"

"I don't really know." I mumbled, sitting on the end of the bed, facing outwards.

Phil came and sat beside me, nudging me slightly with his elbow he said, "that's ok." I smiled and stared at my fingers. "Why don't we got downstairs and get a drink?"

"This is going to sound really weird," I thought but continued anyway. "Can we have milkshakes?"

"Uhhh Yea why not. I'll wake up the boys and see if they want one, the blender will wake them up anyway." I nodded and followed Phil to Techno and Wilbur's rooms.

Before I knew it we were stood watching Phil make milkshakes in the kitchen. And just because we were difficult, all 4 of us wanted a different flavour. "Why don't you boys go sit on the back step?" Techno shuffled over and opened the door, stepping out barefoot.

"It's actually pretty warm out here," he mentioned, inviting Wilbur and I out before closing the back door behind us. The sharp noise of the blender was dulled slightly.

Wilbur hummed out into the night and I rested my head on his shoulder as I said in the middle of my two older brothers. "Good birthday Tommy?"

"Yea. I missed Mum, but it was better than it was at the kid's home."

"God every birthday I have now feels like it's missing something." Wilbur said.

"I mourn the parents I hated, and the Mum I wanted more time with. And then blow out some candles. Always makes for a fun occasion." Techno said, whispering the last part as if even he couldn't bring himself to be sarcastic.

"What was your Mum like?" I asked timidly.

"Oh you would have loved her Tommy," Wilbur started. "Her favourite colour was purple and she used to sing us bedtime songs, even when Techno was like 16. It always helped us get to sleep. She was the one who got me into music. I write songs for her sometimes."

"On my first day she stayed up with me talking all night because I was too scared to go to sleep. And 2 weeks later she surprised me with Mouse. It was the first time I felt like I had a proper family. I miss her more than my bio parents, that's for sure."

"She sounds amazing."

"What about your mum Tommy?"

"Uh, she was kind. She was always a single mum but she did everything for me. She was one of those really involved Mum's, who had a full time job but would still stay up late to help me build a volcano for a school project. She told me that I should find a hobby to do when she was busy, so I started doing art. Sometimes I don't know how I'm supposed to live without her, but I do it anyway?"

"I feel the same sometimes. Like how can I do anything knowing that she's not going to be there, but I just do it for her anyway."

"Yea." Wilbur added, running fingers through my hair.

"What happened to your mum?"

"Her friends decided to surprise her with a birthday trip to Spain. She'd been working with me and Techno so much that she hadn't been out with them for ages. She was so excited to go and Techno and I couldn't wait to have a week with just Dad. There was something so exciting about us being just us men, even as teenagers."
