Third person POV:
Tommy woke up and got himself ready, checking his PE bag over and over, in case he had forgotten something. He went downstairs to get breakfast and dropped his school bags in the hallway, before going to the kitchen.
"Morning Tom. You excited for later?"
"Yep." He smiled, there wasn't much else to say.
"Your dad and I have a surprise for you."
"Mum, I don't really like surprises."
"I promise you'll like this one." Tommy's mum brought a box from behind her back and handed it to Tommy. It was a shoe box, with Nike logos. Tommy opened it to see a new pair of Nike boots. Blue, with black laces. And just next to them, a set of new shin pads. "Can't you have playing for the school's A team without the proper kit." She ruffled his hair and he stood there in shock.
"Thanks Mum!"
"You're welcome. Now eat quickly, or you'll be late. I've got to go Tom. See you at school later."
"Bye Mum. Have a good day."
Tommy quickly replaced the old kit in his PE bag with the new kit. Then he eat breakfast and got walking to school. The day went quickly, and Tommy was proud to turn up at the school changing rooms to put on his new stuff. He knew the boys were going to think his boots were 'even sicker' than last time. The PE teacher walked in with the team kit.
"Right boys. Wear your school PE shorts, and then come get a top. There should be enough but there are quite a few subs." Tommy finished getting his shin pads and socks on before going over to get a top. There weren't any left. He put his short sleeve skin on and walked to the PE office to talk to his PE teacher.
"Sorry sir, there aren't enough tops."
"Who else doesn't have one Tom?"
"Just me sir."
"Okay, have you got your school PE top with you?"
"No, I don't sir."
"Okay, have you got a coat?"
"Yes."
"Wear that over the top of your skin and when you play, we'll get another boy to switch tops with you."
"Okay, thank you sir." Thinking the problem was resolved Tommy returned to the changing rooms, got his football boots and water bottle, put on his coat. "Do we go out and warm up when we are ready?" He asked another boy.
"Yea, sir told us to do that." Tommy nodded and went to put his boots on. He was the first one out there that day and started to warm up. He was the first one out there as all the parents and other team arrived. His mum and dad waved at him and he didn't wave back, trying not to be embarrassed. After nearly 15 minutes, and none of his team mates coming out. Tommy walked back over to the changing rooms, to try and find them. He knocked on the door and got let in. They were having a team talk. "Right ready boys?"
"Yes!" They all cheered. Tommy walked and processed what was happening just as they all put their hands in the middle and said their school name on 3. Feeling a little left out, he hung back as all the other boys walked out. "Sorry sir. Another boy told me I should go out and start warming up. Is there anything I should know?"
"Nope nothing for you Tom. Just go out and get warmed up."
"Oh ok. Did you speak to my head of year sir?"
"Yep. It's in her hands now Tom. Now go on, I'll be out in a minute." Tommy nodded, taking every word as the truth and ran out. All the boys had got into groups and were warming up. Tommy tried to join each one, but would get shut out each time. Giving up on trying, Tommy ran over to his parents. "Hey Tom. You not warming up?"
