Chapter Ten

After no one was found guilty of killing Hange Zoe's titans we were all free to go, of course I know why no one was found guilty of it because they didn't use their own gear but it's alright, I guess.

So instead, now we all stand outside, waiting for our time to pick where we are going.

"You can't be serious, choosing to join the scouts I should just kill you myself. Adelita." Annie tells me as we walk around outside, I shrug and ignore her.

"This wasn't our mission; we join the military police together. And Reiner and Bertholdt get the scouts."

I try to ignore her for as long as I can, but I just can't anymore so I turn towards her. Now examining her features.

Annie had always been the prettier sister, her beautiful bright blue eyes compared to my dark brown ones she would definitely be seen as someone more beautiful.

Annie and I are total opposites I look nothing like her, and I don't think I act like her.

I don't know who my real parents are so I could never say which traits Annie and I took from our parents, the only thing Annie and I may have in common is our facial structure, we both wear a mean scowl on our faces.

I mean does anyone have a reason to smile at this point.

"I don't care about the mission, I never wanted to do this in the first place."

"But you're here. Aren't you?" She answers back I nod, "yes I am. So, while I am here, I will make my own choices and do what I want."

Her eyes widen a little bit, taken back by what I said but she quickly drops her face back to normal.

"Adelita, I don't know what those people did to you. But you are not here for them, you aren't here to fight the titans with them. You aren't here for Armin, Jean, or Marco."

My face feels pale as she mentions his name, how dare she say his name.

"You're here for me, now I am your sister, and I was honest when I said what I said. I will only look out for myself and my sister. So do as I say and join the Military police with me."

I shake my head and give her a simple no. Before walking away from her my hair blowing back in the wind.

My mind runs wild as I think about what she said, Annie is my sister.

But for years I had to do what she wanted, never spoke or made a choice myself. And now for once, I am and I will not allow her to talk me out of this because I am Adelita, not Annie.

I refuse to be in her shadow or as a puppet to be used by her.

As I am walking, I walk into somebody, I don't say anything and just look up to who it was. Armin.

He smiles at me and apologizes even though it was my fault. And with him are Sasha and Connie, if you see one of them just know the other one is somewhere close.

"Adelita, Connie, and Armin told me you're joining the scouts. Really?"

I nod my head, taking a seat on the ground next to Sasha.

"But that is basically a death wish!" She exclaims to me; I shrug my shoulders.

"I don't mind it; I mean we all die one day. Why not die doing something good, like fighting for a cause."

"But why join it?!"

Both her and Connie exclaim, "You're too beautiful. Instead, be a home wife and keep your beauty safe."

My eyes widen while my cheeks redden a bit, I've never been complimented like this before."Well, I am not a wimp. Like the both of you, I am not afraid to die."

And then I hear a new voice join, looking up I see Annie walking over. "To join, you'll have to cut your long hair."

She states plainly, even though my hair has brought much pain and trauma to me I would never dare to cut it. It is something I love about myself, but if I have to I will.

But I can't answer, because Jean walks over. Armin looked up at him.

"Jean! You're really set on the scouts?"

"Yea." He answers saying nothing else, now Sasha cuts in. "Woah, are you serious?.. I mean aren't you terrified?"

"Huh, of course, I'm scared I'm not an idiot here."

Connie looks up at him, sweat dripping down his face. "Then why are you-?"

But he is cut off when Jean starts to speak, explaining he is scared of the titans, and he wants to do something about it. But his speech is cut short when someone comes over.

"Cadets! Fall in, and head over to the front of the stage. Time to make a selection!"

I don't hesitate, pulling myself up from the ground and walking my way to the stage.

As I lead my way to the stage a man with bushy eyebrows stands in front of me, his blonde hair pulled some to the side. I look him up and down while the others come to the front of the stage. Once everyone has arrived, he begins.

"Good evening, I am Erwin Smith commander of the survey corps also known as the Scout Regiment. Today you will choose your regiment, let's cut to the chase here the scouts need you. We need all the warm bodies we can get, after the recent titan attack you now know first-hand the horror, they are capable of as well the limits of your own skill. However, this battles aftermath gave humanity a new chance of victory. I refer to Eren Jeager."

He goes on for a while, I blank out from all his talking it's so boring and I really didn't care. I only tune back in when he starts to wrap things up, "now having heard the discouraging truth, whoever still wishes to put their lives on the line and join us remains here. But first, ask yourself can you give your hearts; can you give everything for humanity!"

Everyone stands applauded as he finished his speech, and everyone starts to walk away. I freeze up I don't know if I am making the right choice, I watch as Annie walks away. I should be walking with her but here I am staying.

I want to move; I want to go run after Annie and apologize to her, but I can't, and I will not.

I place my shaky hands behind my back and stand up straight watching as many people continue to walk away leaving not leaving many people left.

"I ask you if you were ordered to die could you, do it?"

"We don't want to die, sir!" Someone yells up to him he smirks and continues.

"Of course, let us hope that you don't then. You who stayed, you are now one of us! Allow me to welcome you to the Scout Regiment, this is a genuine salute soldiers together we give our hearts!"

I place my left arm in a fist over my heart.

Yelling out a sir as everyone around me does the same, I feel eyes on me and turn around and looking is Armin he is smiling at me I nod my head to him.

I finally did it, I made my own choice.

A/N

Oh wow, some growth we love to see it Adelita. Here is a fun fact, I made Adelita and Annie look very different because of how different they're from the inside. And for the sole purpose that Adelita thinks she ugly bc everyone's always liked Annie better, but Armin will change that.
