seventeen: your smile was the bright star in the deep night

"TOKITO-SAN!"

amata gasps for air as she pulls the man to the surface. blood fills the water and he screams from his broken leg as amata sees muichiro fighting the demon under the water, his black hair swirling, so hard to see beneath the water.

"stay on this rock!" she commands. she heaves in a breath before throwing herself under the water, where muichiro continues kicking and punching the demon.

amata swims forward and slices both of the demon's arm joints off before yanking muichiro up to the surface. he breathes deeply and amata uses her strength to fight the current.

"why are you here?!" she shouts over the rain.

"demons, dumbass!" he yells back. the demon lunges up and he kicks it back before pulling amata closer to him. his eyes widen as he looks at her leg. "kanroji, you're bleeding!"

amata turns her head, gripping muichiro's arms tightly as she does so. she gasps as she sees the gash on her calf, the pain of which has yet to hit her.

she shakes her head and looks back at muichiro. "i'm fine! let's just-"

muichiro kicks the demon back and continues resisting the current.

"let's just get to land!" she yells. she swims alongside muichiro, aiming for the shore. the current drifts them to the side, making it take even longer for them to reach the sand.

"hello there!"

amata feels a hand on her leg and she releases muichiro to get a firmer grip on her sword. she stabs the demon in the shoulder before twisting the blade and pulling it out.

she uses her leg strength to repeatedly kick the demon's hand, which causes the barnacles to break. she slowly feels the stinging in her wounded leg but she ignores it as soon as she smashes the demon's hands enough to break free.

she gasps as she hits the surface, seeing strikes of lightning ensue. she breathes deeply as she swims along, but upon being dragged back under, she swallows a mouthful of saltwater.

this time, the demon doesn't fight her. it just swims furthur out to see, dragging amata along with her. amata realizes they're getting deeper and deeper, making her panic worse and worse.

she adjusts to the speed and slices the demon's arms, freeing herself. she swims up to the surface again and hastily makes her way to a rock.

she stands on it, looking uneasily at the ocean. she coughs up salt water and gags at the taste of it before she resumes total concentration, constant.

the demon growls as she hops onto the rock where blades begin clashing at a great speed. anytime the demon attacks, amata counters. anytime amata attacks, the demon counters.

finally, amata swipes her leg up before harshly bringing it on the demon's head, making the demon bleed and making her vision go fuzzy.

amata screams in pain as she brings her sword to the demon neck, trying to slice through. she sees the demon bring her claw hand up, which makes amata pulls the blade out and dodge.
