MUICHIRO PULLS AWAY FROM AN ASTOUNDED AMATA.
he hurriedly looks down, seeing the blood from various parts of her body. in a concise, fluid-like movement, he runs into the hut and looks at the smith guarding haganezuka.
he grabs the smith's shirt, earning a sharp cry as he tears it off. the smith lands on the floor and muichiro runs back to amata as he tears up the fabric.
"give me your arm."
"w-what?"
muichiro rolls his eyes as he gently pulld amata's arm up, holding one of the cloth's in his mouth. he rolls up the sleeve of her robe before taking the cloth from his mouth and he carefully wraps it around the two puncture wounds next to each other on her forearm.
amata continues to stare at him as he bandages up the rest of her arm, as well as the several wounds on her other arm and her legs. she feels a bubbly sensation as he cares for her, and smiles a bit as he curses under his breath at the revelation that he's out of bandages.
"it's fine." amata says, shaking her head. the sound of a pot rattling shoots her and muichiro's gaze over to the little boy, kotetsu, as a knife is stabbed through his solar plexus.
amata rips needles from muichiro's face and he chages to the fish-monster that has stabbed kotetsu. in a fury of slashes, he kills the monster and amata rises to her feet at the spawning of another one.
muichiro drops to kotetsu, staring at the young boy with worry as amata defends the hut against the fish-monsters that seem to spawn again as soon as she kills them. it feels like a waste of time and she growls angrily.
"how long is this sword supposed to take!?" she yells. her legs begin to feel numb and she feels her movements becoming less and less sluggish as muichiro angrily stares at the dying boy on the floor.
his memories begin to flood back to him. his father dying on the cliff, sickness claiming his mother, a demon claiming his older twin brother. flashes of his life dance across his once hazy mind as it clears, and he turns to see amata battling the fish-monsters, her movements like that of a graceful monster as she slashes the pots on her back.
tanjiro has the same red eyes as his father did. amata shares his smile, and the glowing, warm hugs his mother once gave. she shares the beautiful complexion, the fluidity of the woman who bore him.
he remembers that fateful day that yuichiro died. the day that yuichiro finally apologized, and explained that he only wanted to protect his brother.
muichiro's anger flows and he joins amata in killing the fish demons. the burning on his cheeks ensues, and the teal, cloudy spots on his cheek signify his pure strength. the numbness in hus face disappears, just as the weakness in amata's body seems to burn away at the appearance of her mark.
the monsters are dead and muichiro takes off with amata into the shed. and infuriated gyokko is staring at hotaru haganezuka, who continues to work on the ancient sword, even with the loss of an eye and the slashes in his back. kozo, the other swordsmith, is hardly able to move on the floor.
amata runs first. she slashes her sword at gyokko and he narrowly dodges, staring at the exquisite markings on her cheeks and nose. in his distraction, muichiro runs forward and slashes his arms off.
