amata raises her head from kneeling. her master's weakened voice saddens her as she listens to the careful words he dispells to her.

amata nods, respecting kagaya's wishes.

"of course, oyakata-sama."

"i'm sure you're wondering... why i've summoned you. alone." kagaya figures.

"yes, sir."

"i am very proud of you." kagaya says. "out of all the hashira, you have one of the highest success rates on your mission... i believe that is because you push your body to the limits every time. you dispell more energy to save the commonfolk. your priority is the people as a whole, not the few select individuals in higher positions. why is that?"

amata stares at her hands.

"because... nobody deserves it." amata says. "because if it is possible, i should try to save those that are weaker than i and my foe."

kagaya hums contently.

"you do understand that lives will be lost."

"yes, master."

"and that you cannot save everyone, no matter how hard you may try."

amata flinches. "y-yes... master."

kagaya coughs slightly.

"you have done well throughout the career among the corps. and i want you to understand that this time, loss is inevitable. your goal on this mission is to kill kibutsuji, and his disciples. do you understand?"

amata holds back her tears. her hands ball into fists and she takes a shaky breath before answering.

"yes, master."

his words play through her head, over and over again as she arrives at the annihilated ubuyashiki estate. fire and broken wood has flown everywhere. smoke begins to cloud the air, and amata has already begun crying.

kagaya ubuyashiki is already dead.

she sees the figure of a demon, his body trapped and impaled by a tree. the demon woman's hand rests in his body as she curses angrily at him, and gyomei removes his head.

"brace yourselves! this is muzan kibutsuji!"

the hashira gasp. the only person who has come face to face with muzan was tanjiro kamado.

they stare in shock at their foe. as expected, his head regrows, a cocky grin plastered on his face. the sound of specific breathing is heard as all nine hashira and tanjiro unleash their attacks.
