twenty-nine: the swordsmith village

"OH! HELLO!"

muichiro perks up at the voice and turns around. amata, dressed in a green robe with yellow flowers, runs out of a building to greet him.

"uh, i don't smell very-"

amata hugs the boy anyways, smiling against him. he gently hugs her back and amata pulls away, smiling at muichiro.

"why are you here?" muichiro asks in confusion.

"new sword!" amata smiles. "and i thought it would be nice to visit the springs, what with my several injuries in the past few months." she adds.

"ah. have you gone yet?"

"no, i was just about to go. but then i saw you, so i came over here!" amata cheers.

"oh."

"mitsuri is here too." amata says. "but i think she's eating right now. where are you off to?"

"probably to shower because i reek of sweat and demon."

"okay then! i'll see you later!" amata waves as she begins to walk away. she disappears into her house, and muichiro sees her step outside and head the opposite way to the spring.

"tokito-kun!"

muichiro sighs as mitsuri crashed into him. she hugs him tightly and pets his hair, earning a sound of discontentment from the boy. she pulls away and smiles at him.

"you're here too, huh?" he pouts.

"mm-hmm! i'm going to be going to the spring after amata. also, you should shower. you stink!"

"yes, i know."

"and brush your hair!"

"uh-huh."

"anyways, i'm off to finish eating! see you later!" mitsuri runs off and muichiro goes his own way to clean the filth from his body.

footsteps break amata from her sleep. she pulls her legs up to her chest, hiding herself to look at who's approaching. her heart races nervously, and then, from behind a bush, a boy pops out with a strange hairstyle, scars, and eyes like the wind hashira.

"oh, sorry." he instantly turns around when he sees amata and the girl climbs out of the water, throwing on her robe.

"you're fine! i was just leaving!"

amata takes off, running back to the village with a carefree attitude. she makes her way back to her and mitsuri's room, where she falls asleep a bit too quickly.

"amata! look who's here!"

amata tiredly gets up, blinking her sleepy eyes at mitsuri's excited face. she turns and sees tanjiro waving at her and she smiles.

"tanjiro-kun!" she hugs the boy and he returns the hug in full with a laugh.

"what are you doing here?" she asks.
