The group had gotten back right in time to heal as many people that they could, and we didn't have to lose too many others. There was tension between the group, but I wasn't exactly sure what was wrong or what had happened. I knew anything could've happened, but for the tension to be so thick, I knew something had happened that they weren't too happy about.
The next couple of days were rather uneventful, but then I had woken up one day and something felt off. I shook off the feeling though and got back to my daily routine. The kids had finally been able to come back, so everything seemed to be going back to normal. Hearing a loud bang outside, I knew something was wrong. I grabbed Harry, who was sitting beside me coloring, and I held him to me.
I could tell there was panic all around the prison, so when I got close to the door to outside and someone came in, I grabbed their arm.
"What is happening?" I asked, my eyes searching theirs to see what type of emotion was running through them.
"The Govenor; he's back. He's attacking the prison, and he has a tank." They replied, and my eyes widened.
"C'mon! We have to make it to the bus!" A woman yelled, running over to me.
I followed the woman outside, but when I heard another loud rumbled, I hid Harry and I against a wall to keep us from being hit or hurt in any way.
"Mommy! I'm scared!" Harry cried, and I nodded.
"I know, but I will keep us safe. I promise." I replied, as I held him closer.
When I started seeing walkers roaming around, I started searching for a weapon to keep Harry and I from being eaten. I luckily found a gun on a fallen fighter, and I ripped it from his body. I placed Harry on the ground, holding the big gun in my two hands.
"Stay close to me. Never let go of my leg." I said, and Harry nodded frightfully.
I made my way through the remains of the prison yard, killing the walkers on my way. I seen a few of the group popping off rounds as well, but I sadly also watched a few fall. My eyes swelled with tears when I seen Rick laying on the ground across the field. I could tell he was still breathing, but I couldn't get to him. There were too many walkers, and I had to protect Harry. I wondered where Carl and Judith were, but I hoped with all my heart that they had made it to the bus where I was supposed to go before.
Stopping for a moment, I watched the field, letting a tear run down my face, knowing everything we built up was gone. All of our things were gone. Our home was gone, and there was nothing I could do about it.
"C'mon, we've got to go." I heard, before I felt someone pulling on my arm.
Looking over, I seen it had been Daryl that grabbed my arm. Beth grabbed the gun from my hand, before I picked up Harry, and the four of us escaped the prison. We ran and ran, going across fields and areas we didn't know. When we rested, everything was quiet. Luckily, Daryl hunted for our food, so we never ran out of food, but water was another problem. Beth had carried two bottles of water on her though, so we were able to have water for a couple of days. I refused to drink anything though, since I knew Harry needed it more.
Daryl wasn't the nicest person during all of this. He was rather quiet, and he was really rude too. I knew how he was feeling, honestly, I did, but I wished I hadn't. Everyone was more than likely dead, and we were the only four left. I had hope that my other two children were alive, but I could never be sure. I had to be sure though, so I had to go looking for them.
After a few days of roaming, we had found a rundown house. Daryl knew the house well, since it was practically an image of his own from when he lived with his father and brother. I didn't know much about what happened to him in his life, but I knew some details. I knew what he told me, and I told him quite a bit about my own. Of course, my house wasn't the greatest when I was little, but it was better than the one we had decided to stay in for the time.
While in this house, Daryl had decided to allow Beth to learn to shoot his crossbow, as well as try moonshine for the first time. I hated moonshine, but I wasn't going to tell Beth she couldn't have any. Moonshine was her first drink, and she didn't seem like she hated it too much. We had stopped at a golf course for a little bit, and we had gotten a few things of water, and Beth changed her clothes, but she didn't drink there. We didn't stay there long either, since it wasn't safe.
Anyhow, as the two drank and played "never have I ever," I sat on the couch with my legs up, as Harry slept on my lap. He hadn't gotten real sleep in a few days, so he was quite exhausted. Daryl had become a little emotional and erratic while playing, but luckily, Harry was so exhausted, he didn't wake up from Daryl's loud behaviour. Daryl and Beth continued their behaviour for a bit, before they both seemed to calm down.
"We should sit outside. The air out there is better for Harry anyway." Beth commented, and I nodded.
I carried Harry outside and sat on the porch, while Beth and Daryl talked.
"You're going to miss me so much when I'm gone, Daryl Dixon." Beth murmured, and my eyes trailed to her for a moment.
She was being morbid, and I wasn't too sure how much I appreciated it...
