Song of the Chapter: Goodbye Agony by Black Veil Brides

People argued over who would have the fastest feet to close the fence, though I knew most of them didn't have the balls to attempt to even make the run. Rick had sent Carl to one tower and me to the other. He decided we were the best shots, along with Daryl of course, so he wanted to put us in different spots to cover his ass.

When Carol had almost shot him, my heart stopped for a moment. I don't know what I would've done if he happened to actually get shot. I don't think I'd be able to handle Lori without him, nor would I be able to care for Carl without his help. He's the group leader and I think everyone would be lost without him.

"Light it up!" Daryl shouted, after Rick closed the gate.

Rick began to shoot, before we finally had all of the walkers killed. Rick shot the last walker, before we all climbed down from the towers and came around from the fences.

"This is the most space we've had since the farm." Carol commented, as she looked around the yard.

We looked around the yard, finding a place for us to choose for the night. We just knew we had to bunk outside for the night, since there was definitely not enough time for us to clear out the prison. Rick didn't want to put anyone in danger by making us go into the prison and try cleaning it out while it's getting dark, too many people could end up lost or dead. Though I might not say it, I have come to like having most of this group around, that excludes Lori of course but don't tell her that, she'll have a hissy fit.

Speaking of Lori, I'm pretty sure she's close to her due date. I wouldn't be surprised if she had her baby any day now. Her belly is huge and she can barely make her way around anywhere. I knew for a fact that nobody was going to send her into the prison to kill walkers. As the days got closer, I realized just how much I didn't hate the baby. I really only hated Lori. It wasn't the baby's fault that their mother was a terrible person, much less a whore. Whorey Lori.

The closer it got to dark, the more people began to settle into their spots on the grass. We built a small fire to keep everyone warm, as well as a way to cook food for the night. Maggie forced me to eat my serving, though now I was accustomed to not eating much, so I felt as if I was stuffed once I had eaten my serving of the meat we had been fed that night. Both boys seemed pretty happy with their servings of food as well, since this time they didn't seem as hungry as they used to be after we ate a good few times.

"What's he doing?" Carol asked, as she looked towards Rick.

"He's patrolling the fences. He's done walked those fences three times." Lori answered, though Carol gave her a look that read 'I didn't ask you.'

"He needs to rest. We'll have a big day tomorrow." Herschel stated, causing me to nod.

"I'll go talk to him." I replied, before standing up and walking away.

I could feel Lori's glare on my back, which made me roll my eyes. No matter how hard she tried, she still couldn't get Rick to speak one word to her, unless they were arguing. Which almost every argument revolved around Carl, Harry and I or how she feels he neglected her before she had even gotten pregnant. In which case, he had already explained to me, or rather ranted, that he had been unconscious in a hospital after being shot while on the job.

"Rick, what's wrong? You've walked these fences three times already." I commented, as I walked over to him.

"I can't let my guard down, not until we make it into the prison. Anything can happen and if I'm not ready, it'll be my fault." Rick stated, causing me to sigh.

"Rick, I've told you before-" I began, before he cut me off.

"I know but that doesn't matter anymore. Every time I get the group to a safe place, something happens and we have to leave or people die. I can't lose anymore people, Rachel." Rick said, as I nodded.

"I understand that, Rick, I really do. I don't want to lose anyone else either but you have to think about yourself as well. You're running yourself into the ground." I answered, before he scoffed.

"Like you've thought about yourself? Please, you're practically skin and bone. I understand you're doing it for the boys but you can't let yourself die of starvation to feed them, you'll be doing it for nothing. They'll lose you and I know they can't handle that." Rick retorted, causing me to grab his arm and stop him.

"They'd be able to go on without me, you they couldn't. You're there to guide them, lead them into a better tomorrow. You're there to show them just how a man is supposed to get through each day, no matter how hard it is." I stated, as Rick stared at me.

"They couldn't go on without you. You're their protector when I'm not around. You show them guidance, love, support and reassurance. You make them believe they're doing everything right, even if nothing good comes of it. You're there to pick them up when they're down and help them when they're sick or hurt." Rick said, making me sigh.

"Rick-" I began, before he shook his head.

"C'mon, we need to rest. We've got a long day ahead of us." Rick stated, before leading me back towards the group.

I sat between the boys, as they both laid against me. Once everyone had gathered around to rest for the night, I laid down and let the boys lay their heads on my belly. Rick laid on Carl's side, though he seemed more distant tonight. I believe Rick and I may have had a fight over by the fences, though I wasn't sure. I knew we had a disagreement but with our stubbornness, we'd never change our minds. If only he realized just how important he was to the boys, way more than I could ever be...

A/N: I hope you guys liked this chapter. So, her and Rick had their first disagreement. How do you guys feel about that? If you could say one thing to them to settle the argument, would you say it to them?

Love you guys!
