Chapter Thirty One

That same night, Beth and Daryl ended up blowing up the house. I wasn't too happy about it, since it was a shelter, but they had done it for Daryl's mental health, and I somewhat got over it.

Over a day had passed, before we found another place to stay. Daryl made sure the place was safe, which was good for the four of us. We had been surprised to see the place was completely stocked with food, but the food didn't have a speck of dust on it, which was very odd.

"We should leave them a note." Beth commented, after she grabbed some food.

I was a little disgusted by the way Daryl was eating, but it was still funny, since I swear he never really showed such emotions.

"Food!" Harry exclaimed happily, as he grabbed a jar of peanut butter.

"You need a spoon, Harry." I commented, grabbing a plastic spoon from the box on the table.

"You need a drink, too," Daryl said,"Here, it's grape soda." He added, and Harry smiled.

Harry drank his complete soda, and ate some of the peanut butter, before he decided he was tired again. I carried him over to one of the coffins, and laid him inside of it.

"I'm sorry it's not a regular bed, but at least it's comfortable." I murmured, making him smile sleepily.

As he fell asleep, I pulled a few chairs together, and I somewhat laid down on them. As my eyes were beginning to close, I heard a piano quietly start playing in another room. I could tell that Beth was the one playing piano, since she was always the musical one in the group. I hoped like hell she'd always play music like that for the rest of her life, but of course, our lives weren't promised to be very long in this world.

I let the music help me get to sleep, knowing I hadn't gotten much for almost a week. A few hours later, I was woken up by yelling. I quickly jumped up, only for Beth to run into the room.

"We have to go! Walkers are trying to get in!" She exclaimed, pulling me from the chairs.

"Where's Daryl?" I asked, running over to Harry.

"He's holding them off." She replied, grabbing my bag from the ground.

Her bag was already on her shoulder, and she threw mine with hers. In one swift movement, I placed Harry in Beth's arms.

"Go! Run! I'll help Daryl! I'll find you!" I exclaimed, pushing Beth and Harry out of the room.

I ran back to find Daryl, stabbing a few walkers as I went.

"What are you doing?! I told Beth to get you and Harry and run!" He yelled, as he grabbed my arm.

"I couldn't leave you. I made them go without us." I replied, going easily, as he practically ran with me out of the building.

Running out of the building, my eyes widened when I seen a car zooming off from the area. Quickly getting closer, I realized the car had taken Beth, since the bags were on the ground. I was scared they took Harry too, but as soon as we neared the trees, Harry ran over to me.

"Mommy! They took Beth!" He cried, as he latched on to my legs.

Daryl chased after the car on foot, as I grabbed our bags and lifted up Harry. I ran as well, but nowhere near as fast as Daryl, since I was carrying more stuff than he was. We ran for hours, but the sun soon came up, and the car was practically gone with the wind.

"It's gone. She's gone." I murmured, as I practically collapsed to the ground.

Daryl fell next to me, his breath not too loud, but the exhaustion was sure taking over. Harry was tired as well, since he was woken up in the middle of the night to something crazy as hell. I wasn't expecting to have so much chaos and a lack of sleep in a long time, but it happened. We were in the middle of nowhere, and no one was around. The fall air nipped over our skin, and leaves scattered the ground around us.

"What do we do?" I asked, my voice low.

"I don't know, but we've got to find her." He replied, and I nodded in agreement.

Beth disappearing scared the hell out of me. With how the world had been going for years, I had forgot just how had humans could really be. I wanted to know who took her, and I wanted to know their motives. Why would someone take a harmless, young girl? Why would they take her and leave Harry behind? Did they see Harry, or did Beth hide him before he could be taken? I almost wondered if the people that took Beth were possibly creeps, and wanted her for their own enjoyment.

The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to kill someone for taking her. She was practically just a child. She was barely nineteen, and she had been taken against her will. Hell, she and Harry didn't deserve to grow up in a world like this. They deserved to be happy, but I knew they wouldn't be. One day something would happen, and everything would fall apart; like it seemed to be now.

I felt horrible knowing I hadn't prevented her from being kidnapped. If I had gone out with her like I was supposed to, she wouldn't have been taken, or maybe I would've been able to save her, but I would've been taken myself. Obviously, I have no idea what could've happened, since all of the events happened so fast, but anything could've went down. I was scared out of my wits for what could've happened, and what could come in the future. I didn't need to dwell on the future though, since the future was uncertain, and anything could happen. I didn't need to stress myself with the what ifs, and I needed to deal with the now...
