Song of the Chapter: Cloudy by The Jonaskians ft. 5 Seconds of Summer
After Rick had approached me and told me that he pretty much wanted me to join his group, I couldn't get the idea of having to leave out of my mind. I was scared, more than I had been during the entire apocalypse so far. I knew I had to do what was best for Harry, no matter how it would benefit me or not. Rick had mentioned safety in number, which made me wonder if going with them would be the better option.
I carried Harry up to our room, deciding to let him nap in the bed we were soon going to be losing. I knew I didn't want him to lose the one place he thought was safe but at this point, thanks to Shane, I couldn't change anything. I really just had to wait on Rick and see if he was able to talk Herschel out of making us leave. I doubted he could though, no matter how hard he tried. I seen the heartbreak and despair written on Herschel's face, there was no way to justify that kindly. I knew that, probably his as much as he did.
I wanted to believe in Rick, no matter what choices he made but I couldn't put Harry at risk. I could tell Lori didn't trust Rick, she seemed to believe she was the only one who needed to stay on this farm. She didn't mention him or her son, she just said she needed to stay. I hated her for what she said but when she mentioned her being pregnant, I almost understood, though I didn't, since she didn't seem to care about anyone but herself and the baby. A knock on my bedroom door, pulled me out of my thoughts. I walked over to the door, surprised to see Rick when I opened it but I allowed him inside anyway.
"Herschel's gone." Rick said, causing me to look at him confused.
"What do you mean gone?" I asked, as he sighed.
"Maggie thinks he went to the bar in town, must be drinking away his sorrows." Rick replied, as I looked out the window at Maggie and Glenn.
"Are you going to get him back?" I asked, causing Rick to look away.
"Lori thinks I should stay and not risk going to get him, says he's a coward for leaving. Beth collapsed, she's in some type of catatonic state. I think our best bet is to bring Herschel back, at least for his girls, if not everyone else. Maybe by doing this I can get him to agree to letting us stay on this farm." Rick stated, as I nodded with a sigh.
"He's not a coward, he's grieving. He thinks we just slaughtered his wife and step son. I think we all know by now how he's feeling in some way. I believe you're doing exactly what you need to do for his girls and possibly for this group. Just-don't get yourself killed trying to save the old bastard." I said, causing him to smile and chuckle a bit.
"You got it, Rachel." He replied, as he opened the bedroom door.
He looked down at Harry, giving me enough time to see Lori glaring at me from the hallway. Rick smiled sadly down at the child before leaving the room and walking away from Lori. I knew she was trying hard not to cause a scene, so I went to shut my door. She quickly blocked the door at the last minute and pushed her way inside, before shutting the door behind herself.
"What are your intentions with my husband?" She asked, causing me to raise my eyebrow.
"What do you mean? I didn't do anything." I answered, causing her glare to harden.
"I've seen you both talking to each other multiple times for no reason. There's no good reason for you to be invading my family like that when you know just how much Carl and I care for him." She spat, causing me to smirk.
"Enough to bang his best friend, right?" I asked, making her gasp.
"Excuse me?" She sputtered, making me chuckle.
"Lori, don't come at me with your high school games. You may be pregnant but since we're not sure who the baby daddy is, I don't think anybody's worried about it as much as you. Well, maybe Shane, since he thinks you both would make the perfect family. Just tell me Lori, was he worth it?" I retorted, causing her to get closer to me.
"You shut your mouth." She spat, making me smirk.
"Why? Mad that I said what you're too scared to say? Mad that I asked what you're too afraid to answer? Face it Lori, your marriage was over when you jumped into bed with Shane. You can say it was a mistake all you want but we all know it wasn't. You both still have the same eyes on each other, you just try to hide them. Give it time and Rick will find out, you'll never have the happy family you wanted. Rather you're going to blame me or yourself, your life isn't going to work out like it did before." I stated, making her even more angry.
She glared daggered, before she lifted her arm and smacked me in the face. Normally I wouldn't have let it slide but she's pregnant and Maggie had walked into the room.
"Lori! What the hell is wrong with you?!" Maggie yelled, waking up Harry.
I quickly made my way over to the bed, pulling him into my lap, consoling him from the scene in front of us.
"I-she-I-" Lori stuttered, as Maggie grabbed her wrist.
"You're such a despicable person. I'm telling Rick as soon as he gets back." Maggie spat, causing Lori's eyes to widen.
"N-no, please. I-it was a misunderstanding." Lori argued, as Maggie shook her head.
"Leave. Don't ever let me see you around Rachel or Harry again." Maggie stated, before Lori ran out of the room.
Maggie smiled sympathetically at me, before opening the bedroom door.
"I'll bring you both some food." She said, before leaving the room.
Once she was gone, I began to think about what just happened. Either Lori just screwed up her already screwed up relationship or I started a whole new drama. I wasn't sure which but until Rick came back, it was all going to be a mystery...
