Song of the Chapter: Drama Club by Melanie Martinez
Rick, Glenn and Herschel didn't arrive back until the next morning. By then, a hand shaped bruise was noticeable on my face. Pretty much everyone knew what had happened, most believed the truth, Shane of course did not. He blamed me, said I had antagonized it. Rather I did or not, didn't give Lori the right to hit me. She knew this as much as he did, though they tried to make her out to be the victim. Even Carl believed me over his mother, who seemed to hate the idea of her own son knowing she was trying to lie to everyone.
I sat on the porch with Harry in my lap, as Carl sat next to me. The three of us were on rocking chairs, enjoying the cool breeze coming from the autumn wind. Lori and Shane sat glaring at us, as the others glared at them. Dale had tried to keep his opinion to himself, though he wasn't happy with Lori at all. He was never really an angry man, but both Lori and Shane had given him reasons to be a bit agitated.
Instead of running straight up to Rick, she stood back with Shane a moment too long. She should've known better because almost as soon as Maggie was done talking to Glenn, she went straight to Rick and told him about the incident yesterday. Lori ran over trying to tell Rick that Maggie was lying and that it was a misunderstanding, but Rick didn't listen to a word she said. Instead he walked on to the porch and stood in front of me. I looked up at him, pretty much giving him the perfect view of the bruise on my face.
"You said you didn't hit her! Why is there a hand shaped bruise on her face?!" Rick exclaimed, causing Lori to shake her head.
"I-it was a misunderstanding Rick. She said something to make me mad and-" Lori began, before Rick cut her off.
"So you hit her?" He asked, causing Lori to raise her hands and try to exclaim her reasoning.
"Let me explain. Let me at least tell you what she said." Lori cried, causing Rick to shake his head.
"No, I don't care. You've lied to me too many times already. Just-please leave me be for a while." Rick stated, before Lori rushed off.
"Who's the guy?" T-Dog asked, bringing all our attention to the truck.
"That's Randall." Glenn answered, as he pointed towards the guy.
"His friends left him for dead once he fell off the roof." Herschel added, as he opened Randall's door.
T-Dog and Glenn helped carry the guy to the shed where Herschel decided he'd fix the guy's leg. I was honestly surprised the guy didn't bleed out on his way to the farm, especially after knowing he fell off a room. When I seen all the blood by his knee, I was pretty sure I knew he'd never be able to fully use his leg ever again, not without a limp.
"Him and his buddies were shooting at us." Glenn muttered, causing multiple gasps.
"You brought him back here? Why would you do that? He tried to kill you guys, Rick." I said, causing Rick to sigh and rub his hand over his face.
"I couldn't just let him die. He's just a kid. After he's patched up, we're going to ship him off and it'll be like he was never here." Rick replied, causing me to sigh.
I shook my head, picking myself and Harry up, before heading into the house. I walked up to our room, setting us down on the bed. I grabbed a few toy cars, handing them to Harry for him to play, as I began to pack our things. Before I could pack much, my bedroom door opened.
"What are you doing?" Rick asked, as I folded clothes.
"I'm packing mine and Harry's stuff. I-I can't stay here knowing that guy is here. He shot at you guys, Rick. He's dangerous and you may think it'll all be fine but I can't risk it." I said, as I started putting clothes into bags.
"Look, Rachel. I'm trying here, okay. It's not easy looking out for a group. So, would you just-would you stop for one moment." Rick began, before grabbing my arm and making me look at him,"Listen to me for a minute. I know it seems bad now but I can assure you nothing is going to happen to you or Harry. I'm sorry if you think that." Rick finished, causing me to sigh and set the clothes in my hand on to the bed.
"Rick, I believed you when you said you'd talk to Herschel about the walkers in the barn. I believed you when you said you'd talk to Herschel about letting us stay. I want to believe you when you say it'll all be over soon with that guy, but after Lori's meltdown yesterday, I think it's best if Harry and I just leave." I stated, causing Rick to exhale in agitation.
"I-I'll take care of what happened with Lori. It'll never happen again. As far as I'm concerned, she's in deep shit right now. Randall will be gone soon, one way or another. I'm telling you right now, no matter what, both problems will be taken care of. I-I need you to believe me." Rick said, making me nod with a sigh.
"Rick, I believe you. If things go south, this will be the last time I believe you." I stated, causing him to look down for a moment before looking back up into my eyes.
"Just-trust me, okay?" Rick commented, making me bite my lip.
"I trust you Rick, don't make me regret it." I replied, before he nodded and then left.
I sat down next to Harry, as he played with his toys, oblivious to the scene that just happened in front of him. If only I had the innocence of a child. Maybe things would be better. I didn't understand what was going on with Rick. I didn't understand why there was so much drama with Lori and Shane. I just wanted it all to end before everything blew up in our faces...
