Song of the Chapter: Drugs by Falling in Reverse

**One Month Later**

I've now taken care of Harry for a full month now, and I've really learned quite fast on how to take care of a child. I had never cared for a child before, but it seemed almost easy taking care of Harry. He listened quite well and didn't cause too much trouble. Since his mother had told him I'd be his new mom, he's been calling me Mommy. I guess it was a way for him to deal with losing his mother. I felt bad with the idea of telling him to call me by my name, so I let him call me what he wanted.

Anyhow, as the days grew shorter and the weather began to cool down, I realized just how bad I needed to find a shelter for Harry and I. Though I also needed to find us some warmer clothes, that way the longer we're outside, the longer we'll stay warm without feeling the cold air.

"Would you like to go find warm clothes?" I asked, as Harry nodded at me.

"Yes Mommy." He replied, and I smiled.

I held his hand, walking us towards a small town. The town seemed to be empty, but I knew better than to chance trusting the town to be empty. So, I held Harry closer to me, as I walked towards the small set of shops. One was a clothing store, one was a convenience store, and one was a pharmacy. He and I walked towards the clothing store, before walking inside and grabbing two bookbags.

We walked around the store, as I picked clothes that were our sizes. I also grabbed jackets and shoes. Once we were done inside of the clothing store, we walked over to the convenience store. We made our way inside, packing a third bookbag full of food and water that was left in the store. As we were finishing up, I heard a noise outside of the store. I quickly grabbed Harry and hid him behind me, as I looked out of the window and seen two people on horses. They were riding into town, but I didn't know where they were headed. I mean, I knew they were headed near the store Harry and I were in, I just didn't know which store they were going to.

Anyhow, I watched them as they approached, hearing them speaking to each other. I watched as they got off of their horses and headed into the pharmacy. I knew this was Harry and my only chance to escape before they tried to come into this store, so I needed to act fast.

"C'mon baby, we need to leave. Be quick and quiet, okay?" I said, and Harry nodded.

"Okay Mommy." He replied, before I slowly opened the door.

I flinched as the bells on the top of the door rang, hoping the two people hadn't heard the bells. I quickly grabbed Harry's shoulders, before leading him away from the store. As we were trying to sneak off, I heard the people shuffling out of the store. I quickly grabbed Harry and tried to hide behind the stores, trying to be as quiet as possible as I listened for the people.

"You heard those bells, right?" The woman asked, which made my breath hitch.

"Yeah, but it could just be a walker." The man replied, making me sigh in relief.

"Should we check it out or..." The woman trailed off, making me feel nervous.

"Mommy, I'm scared." Harry whimpered, making me bite my lip.

"Shh." I whispered, holding him close.

"Did you hear that?" The man asked, making me stiffen.

"Yeah, sounded like talking. We need to check it out." The woman stated, as I gripped tighter to Harry.

"No, Maggie. What if you get hurt?" The man retorted to the woman, who I'm guessing was named Maggie.

"Glenn, it sounded like a child." Maggie retorted, as I heard the man, Glenn, groan.

I could hear their footsteps getting closer, as Harry and I held each other tightly. As soon as I knew they were too close, I pulled Harry behind me. I tried to back up slowly and not make any noise, but I was unlucky. The woman, Maggie, peaked around and spotted us.

"Hey!" She exclaimed, as I went to run with Harry.

"Stay where you are." The man, Glenn, stated, as he raised his gun at us.

I held Harry protectively, glaring at Glenn as he held the gun up at us. Maggie quickly pushed his arm down, glaring at the boy as well.

"Don't point your gun at them. That little boy is scared to death." She spat, as he looked away.

"But Maggie-" He started, before she cut him off.

"No, we're going to help them." She said, as she turned to me. "Excuse me, are you two alone?" She asked, and I bit my lip.

"Yes." I answered shortly, not sure if I should trust them, especially Glenn.

"Do you have shelter? Food? Water? Medicine?" She asked, and I sighed.

"No shelter, but we just got some food and water." I replied, as I picked up Harry.

"Do you want to come with us? We can give you shelter and all your other needs as well." She asked, causing me to look away.

I knew I needed to find shelter for Harry and I before winter, but I didn't know how I felt about going with these two people. Especially since Glenn had pulled a gun on us. For all I knew, they could just be taking us off to kill us for our supplies.

"We promise we won't hurt you. You and your son will be safe. We've got a farm with other survivors there." Glenn said, causing me to feel surprised.

I honestly didn't expect Glenn to try and get us to come with him, even though I had a feeling that he was only trying to get us to come because of Maggie.

"I-I guess we could try." I replied, and they nodded.

"You can leave if you don't like it, but we believe you'll fit right in. There's another little boy there, a bit older than yours. He's injured right now, but he'll be up and playing soon enough." Maggie said, and I nodded.

Maggie decided Harry and I would ride with her, as Glenn would hold all of our bags. I didn't know how to feel about Glenn having all of our things, but Maggie assured me that I'd get everything back at camp. I just hoped this wasn't a bad idea...
