Song of the Chapter: The Kids by Eminem

Rick decided today we'd have a meeting over what to do with the kid's life. I didn't know what all the options were but I knew I just didn't want the kid anywhere near Harry. If the kid stayed, well, Harry and I would be leaving. As of today, the fate of that kid would term if Harry and I stay or if we go. I had heard what Daryl told the group about the boy, so I knew he wasn't a good person to have around the camp. Now, rather everyone thought that or not was a different story.

The group gathered in the living room, waiting to give out their ideas for what to do with the boy. We had agreed on majority rules, instead of unanimous, knowing a couple people saying no to an idea wouldn't bother everyone else if they said yes.

"This is a man's life and we're having to choose what we do with it?" Dale asked, unhappy about the situation.

"Dale, this guy isn't someone I want to be around my son, or any of the kids. This guy may seem like he could change but once you're to the point where you don't care about anyone's life but yours, you're too far gone to save or to have around other people." I said, everyone going quiet for a moment.

"We're just going off of 'what ifs', this kid could possibly be an asset to our group." Dale argued, as his facial features seemed to change.

"It'd be another mouth to feed." Andrea commented, looking towards Dale.

"It'll be a lean winter." Maggie added, trying not to be part of the conversation.

"So, if we do this tonight, how do we do it?" Rick asked, causing Dale to look shocked.

"So that's it, you've made your decision. You're going to kill him. Are you going to watch too? No, you're going to hide your heads in your tents as if nothing mattered." Dale spat, causing everyone to go quiet once more.

"Anyone else want the floor?" Rick asked, before Dale stepped up again.

"You once said, we don't kill the living." Dale argued, as Rick gripped the chair I was sitting in.

"That's was before the living tried to kill us." Rick retorted, as Dale shook his head.

"This is a young man's life." Dale cried, as everyone looked over at him.

"I understand where you're coming from Dale, but look around you. We've all lost too many people and could potentially lose more if this boy is left loose in our camp. You don't need to be worried about someone who isn't even part of the group, when your group is right here fighting to stay alive." I stated, as everyone seemed to agree with what I said.

"Rachel's right Dale, maybe things would've been different before but I'm not risking the lives of everyone in this group for someone we don't know." Lori added, surprising me with her agreement.

"It happens tonight. We'll have to find a rope-" Shane began, before Rick cut him off.

"Shooting is more humane." Rick said, before everyone but Dale agreed.

"Isn't anyone going to stand with me on this?" Dale asked, nobody looking towards him.

Everyone stayed quiet, trying there best not to make a sound.

"They've got you all scared." Dale stated, causing me to frown.

"Nobody's scared, Dale. We just know what's best for everyone else." I said, before standing up and heading upstairs.

Harry and Carl were sitting on my bed playing with cars, oblivious to all the arguing downstairs. As soon as I walked into the room though, Carl turned and looked at me.

"Did you guys figure something out?" He asked, causing me to bite my lip.

"Uh, your Dad's going to take care of everything. Just-Just don't worry about it. You're both going to be safe after today." I replied, as I hugged both boys to my side.

Later that night, I put Harry to bed and changed into a pair of pajamas. As I started reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, I heard a commotion downstairs. I decided to go see what it was, worried something could've happened. As I made my way down stairs, I was surprised to see Lori and Rick arguing again. Rick looked distraught, which confused me a bit.

"You were supposed to be watching him." Rick spat, as Lori cried.

"I was. I just turned my back for a moment and he disappeared." Lori replied, as Rick ran his hand through his hair.

"Where was he?! How'd he get there without you realizing he was gone?!" Rick exclaimed, causing Lori eyes to widen.

"H-he was in the room he had stayed in for his surgery." She stuttered, as Rick shook his head.

"You weren't even in the same room as him! Lori, he's your son! You're supposed to watch him! He wanted to watch!" Rick exclaimed, as she sighed.

"Well, maybe if you would've chose something else, he wouldn't have and Dale wouldn't be dead." Lori spat, causing my eyes to widen.

I couldn't believe Dale was dead. I felt so bad for the way I had spoken to him earlier. Lori was wrong though, very wrong for the way she was blaming Rick.

"That's not on me." Rick argued, causing Lori to shake her head.

"No, maybe it's on Rachel. If it wasn't for her, you wouldn't have decided to even kill the boy. Why don't you go tell her that he isn't dead." Lori said, making Rick frown.

"He's not dead because you couldn't watch Carl for ten minutes. Don't bring Rachel into this. She has nothing to do with the way you have been acting. Maybe next time I'll just ask her to watch Carl, since she's way more competent." Rick stated, causing Lori to gasp.

"He's my son!" She exclaimed, causing Rick to shake his head.

"You should've acted like it." Rick spat, before walking outside.

I headed back up to my room, deciding to just lay down and try to sleep. If I knew there was going to be issues, I would've killed him myself. Now Dale's dead and the boy's not, all because of Lori. I couldn't help but think though, was it all my fault that they were fighting? Would they be a normal family if I wasn't in the way? I didn't even understand how it could be my fault, but Lori thought it was and she's starting to make me believe it too...
