Song of the Chapter: If I Was the King by Steel Panther
When we arrived at the farm, everyone that was outside stared at us. I felt rather uncomfortable, as I held Harry close to me. I felt unsettled by their eyes, so I didn't feel safe having Harry away from me. Each set of eyes held different emotions, a couple of them held glares.
"You and your son can stay in a room in the house. It'll be a bit cold at night, and you both don't seem to have enough body mass to withstand the cold nights." Maggie said, as I bit my lip.
"Thank you." I replied quietly, and she nodded with a smile.
Glenn handed me the bags Harry and I had packed, before Harry and I followed Maggie inside. She led us to a room, before opening the door. Inside was a rather nice looking bedroom, with a full size bed, a vanity and a dresser. I laid our stuff down on the bed, before turning back to Maggie.
"Thank you." I said again, and she nodded with a slight laugh.
"No problem. There's a bathroom over there, and we have hot water. So feel free to get a shower." She stated, and I grinned lightly.
"Oh, my name is Rachel, and that's Harry." I introduced, and she smiled brightly.
"Lovely names. Once you both get washed up, I'll fix you some food and then introduce you to everyone." Maggie said, and I nodded.
She closed the door on her way out, before Harry and I began to get ready to wash up. I gave Harry his shower first, making sure he was all nice and clean, before getting him dressed in a pair of sweat pants and a black t shirt.
"You can take a nap while I shower." I told him, and he quickly nodded.
I gathered my clothes up, trying to wait until Harry fell asleep. Once he was asleep, I stepped into the bathroom and took a shower myself. The water felt so amazing against my skin. I felt more relaxed, as I watched all the dirt, grime, and walker blood go down the drain. Once I was finished, I dried off and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked tired, but now I was clean. My sandy blonde hair was so clean, my blue-green eyes seemed to be brighter, more importantly, I looked clean.
I quickly dressed myself and brushed my hair, before walking back into the room Maggie had given us. I looked over and seen Harry was still asleep. I really didn't want to wake him, but I knew he needed to eat. I also felt safer with him in my arms, instead of far away from me. So, I walked over to them bed and shook Harry ever so slightly.
"Harry, it's time to wake up." I cooed, as he slowly woke up.
He rubbed his eyes, still looking sleepy. I sighed, knowing he needed more rest. He raised his arms up to me, before I picked him up. He laid his head on my shoulder, as I carried him out of the room. Maggie stood in the kitchen, fixing food for us.
"Oh good, I was just about to come get y'all. Here's a sandwich and water. Once you're done I'll introduce you to everyone." She said, and I nodded.
Harry and I ate our sandwiches, savoring the flavors, before we drank our glasses of water. Once we were done, I carried our dishes into the kitchen, making sure to set them in the sink.
"Alright, c'mon." Maggie said, before leading us outside.
Judging by the sun, it was already midday, meaning the sun would be up for at least six or seven more hours. Anyhow, Maggie led me around back first, where I seen an old man, an old lady, a young blonde girl, and a young boy.
"Rachel, this is my father, Hershel, our friend Patricia, my sister Beth, and her boyfriend Jimmy. Guys, this is Rachel and her son Harry." Maggie introduced, as we each nodded at each other.
"Where'd you find 'em?" Hershel asked, making me bite my lip.
"They were outside the stores, Dad. They didn't have nowhere to go, nor did they have food, water or medicine. I knew we just needed to help them. They wouldn't last through the incoming winter." Maggie answered, lying just a little bit.
Hershel just nodded, before he went back to work. Maggie rolled her eyes, before she led me to a bigger group of people sitting in her front yard. They all looked up at us once we had approached.
"Okay, so, guys, this is Rachel and her son Harry. Rachel, this is Carol, Dale, Andrea, Shane, T-Dog, you already met Glenn, Daryl, Lori, Rick, and their son Carl is inside. He was in an accident, so he's bed ridden right now." Maggie said, and I nodded.
When she went through the people, and introduced each of them, I realized Shane was the one glared the most at me. I didn't care though, since he seemed like an opinionated asshole anyway. I also realized Daryl seemed to glare a little, but he also seemed like a very closed off person, so I kind of understood why he didn't seem to happy to meet us. I also realized Lori didn't seem to keen on me either, though she could just be worried about her sickly son's safety.
As I scanned the group, I let my eyes fall on Rick last. He looked tired, stressed. Something I was so used to right now, which made sense, since I was out on my own with a four year old. I looked away from him, but not before noticing how lovely his eyes looked. Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that he had a wife and that it was the apocalypse, I'd be all over him. He was quite handsome. I just knew it was better if I kept my opinions in the back of my mind. I didn't need them to taint my mind, making it harder for us to live near them...
