Song of the Chapter: Godzilla by Eminem
After kissing Rick's cheek, I felt like I had stepped over our boundaries. I honestly hated myself for it. So, while he was gone, I tried to think of a plan on how to avoid Rick without him getting suspicious. I know it seemed childish, but I didn't know if he was really comfortable with it, since his son was so dependent on us and we were never showing him that Rick and I had any affection towards each other.
As I stood in the cell I was going to call my own, I heard yelling downstairs. Running down, I seen Carl opening the door letting the others in, while they pushed Herschel in on a rolling table. My eyes widened when I seen all of the blood and his missing leg. I was about to ask what happened, when I heard more voices outside of the cell block. I knew the voices weren't familiar, and I knew Daryl was out there with them, so I turned towards the door to leave. Before I could even take a few steps away, I felt Rick grab my arm.
"Don't even think about it." He said, causing me to sigh.
I decided to watch as Carol and Lori tried to work on Herschel with the best of their abilities. Rolling my eyes when Lori glared at me next to Rick, I turned around and walked over to the stairs and sat down. After handcuffing Herschel to the bed, Rick walked over to me.
"What happened to him?" I asked, causing him to sigh.
"We were snuck up on, and he went to find Glenn and Maggie. A walker on the ground grabbed him and bit his calf. We had to cut it off, hoping it would work to stop the spread of the virus. Maybe it'll save his life." Rick answered, and I nodded.
"What about those guys out there with Daryl?" I also asked, as Rick pursed his lips.
"They're inmates. They were in the cafeteria when we found them. They were locked in with all the food." He replied, an idea popping in my head almost instantly.
"We could use that food for the group." I said, as Rick nodded.
"Exactly, but we've got to get to it first, or at least get the inmates to trust us enough to give us some, give us range of it at least so we can take what we want." Rick added, making me nod.
An awkward silence fell over us. Maybe it wasn't awkward to him, but to me it was. I couldn't stop thinking about what I had done earlier. It might not have been such a bad thing before, but in this world, it's not a great idea. Besides, I wasn't even sure that Rick was completely over Lori, though he seemed to be, I wasn't sure. Deciding to suck up my pride, I talked to break the silence.
"I'm sorry about earlier. I know I probably passed a boundary. I mean, back when the world wasn't shit, I'd kiss everybody's cheek, but now it doesn't feel right. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable with it if I did. It was just something that happened. I mean, I don't regret it, but I totally hate myself for it. I shouldn't have-" I ranted, but before I could finish my rant, I felt him grab my face in his hands and pull my lips to his.
My eyes widened for a moment, before I allowed myself to melt into the kiss. It didn't last very long, but I knew Rick had to get back to being a leader soon. He couldn't just spend all his time with me, though I kind of wished he did, at least for a day.
"Don't ever say sorry. I've got to get out there to Daryl, but we'll talk more later." He said, pecking my lips once more before leaving.
I stared into space for a moment, thinking about what had just happened. I didn't expect Rick to kiss me. I honestly never thought our relationship would go past platonic, but it seemed he may have wanted something more. As I contemplated what the kiss might have meant, I realized that I wanted something more than a platonic relationship with Rick, even if that meant I had to deal with Lori.
Shaking my head, I looked over and seen Lori was staring at me with heart broken eyes. At that moment I felt bad, but I also knew that she had done it to herself. Had she tried harder to work on her marriage and not sleep with Rick's best friend, maybe she wouldn't be in the predicament she was in right now. As I was about to get up and help Carol and Lori, I heard crying coming from one of the cells. I quickly made my way up the stairs on to the perch, before walking down to the cell next to mine.
Walking inside, I seen Harry was laying on his bed asleep, but I knew he was having a nightmare. Sighing, I climbed into the bed with him and slowly tried to wake him up. I always knew I wasn't supposed to startle a person who was having a nightmare because I could cause them to have a panic attack or something worse. Once he had woken up, he buried his face in my neck and I held him close.
I sat my back against the wall, pulling Harry into my lap. I knew he was going to fall asleep again, but I wasn't too worried about it. I knew he needed as much sleep as the rest of us, though he didn't do as much as we did. He did endure everything we had to every day though, so it really wore him out. As I felt Harry finally fall asleep, I heard a commotion downstairs, before I heard Carl.
"Then get off my back!" He exclaimed, for reasons unknown to me.
"Carl! Don't be like that! She's your mother!" Beth scolded, as my heart ached.
"No she isn't." Carl spat, before I heard him stomping up the stairs.
Things were about to get so much worse...
