Sorry for the late update and slow chapter, I've been crazy busy (which you already know) - my updates may be once in two weeks for a while now.
Your POV
"So you're telling me that there are countless people who've been affected... oddly... by the resurfacing memories?" Harriet and JJ, her beloved, had been helping me and Harry for weeks, and I never knew about it. People our age on the Isle, just like me, Harry, Steve, Coy, and probably more, were all beginning to remember, and Harriet was ensuring it stayed that way.
"The parents go psycho, that's for sure - and some of the kids don't believe it, but it's happening. The memories are coming back, and JJ and I are gathering everyone together." She was incredibly proud of their discoveries.
"How do we do it once and for all, though? While preventing another mass spell from making us forget again?"
"Well if a mass spell can put us under, it only makes sense that a mass spell will pull us out."
"But how?"
"Aren't you the one with the," She gestured to my wrist, "magical bracelet?"
"I don't know anything about it, really." I shook my head, changing the subject. "Who do you think was behind this all in the first place?"
"The parents who get episodes... they all say the same culprit, every single time: the King."
"King Adam?"
"Who else could it be?"
"But that's so typical... I mean, an evil King? Could it be any plainer?" It would explain his sour mood the day we got back from Motunui, and why he hadn't been coming out of his castle too often.
"Who else could "King" refer to, (y/n)? But regardless of that - this King needed an accomplice, someone with an impossible amount of power. I personally think it's the dear Fairy Godmother."
"Those two are close, and they showed the most resistance to the barrier coming down - you may be right."
"Regardless of who it was, they likely wiped their own minds too. We need everyone to remember so justice can be served, and you need to figure out how that's going to happen. You need a lot of magic and a special spell."
Mal's spell book was a dead end, I knew there was nothing this powerful in there. We'd need something truly amazing, something out of a fairytale. "I'll do some reading-"
The door in Harry's room unlatched, snapping both of our gazes to the sound.
Harry bounded in tensely, still in his fencing gear, with a resolute look on his face. It took him a moment to process that he actually did find me.
I stood, genuinely upset over how I treated him. Johnny messed up, big time, but I could have stayed back with Harry and Uma. I was too blinded by Johnny's words that I ditched Harry once again.
"Harry I'm sorr-" Before I could finish, he pulled me close to him, arms wrapping around surely.
"I never doubted it, but you were right - Johnny's gone mental." He sounded sadly defeated.
"He messed with you too?" My voice was muffled as my face was comfortingly trapped up against his body.
"Well, mostly because I'm connected to you," He pulled away for a second to smirk, "but yes, he has some vendetta against everyone but his dear Uma."
"Think it's legit, or related to some magic thing?"
"Hopefully the latter. I doubt anyone can play the nice act for so long, only to turn out like... that."
"Well on the brighter side, I've finally met Harriet."
"Oh right." We pulled away from each other. "Why're you even here anyway - both of you?" Harry looked between us curiously.
"This was the only place away from everything. Plus, you have a nice bed." I pointed at it as I said so.
"You know why I'm here, Harry - it's the same reason I'm always here." She laughed in that now-familiar laugh of hers. "So imagine my surprise to find a Sleeping Beauty laying in your bed here."
Harry joined in with her laughter. "Well I'm relieved I finally found you - it was not easy, (y/n), you know? Uma ditched me from exhaustion once we finished searching the school."
"Sorry again." I bit my lip. "But speaking with Harriet made me realize we're closer to the solution than I thought we were - I think we have a real shot at fixing all of this mess."
"I completely believe that, princess."
Harry and I decided to head back to our dorms shortly after, giving Harriet some privacy and ourselves a chance to rest before the tournament continued.
Harriet said she'd be ready whenever we were to gather everyone who remembered, so it was only a matter of me figuring out the technical, magical, details before everything would work out.
As we crossed the bridge, leaving the Isle, I tapped Harry's shoulder. "Hey Harry, is that them?"
He looked around until his eyes found what I did, and he nodded. "No one else dresses like that in this weather."
We briskly walked up to them as I called their names, "Maya, Kai!"
Both looked pleased as always to see us, and when I saw them it really hit me, how long it had been since we'd said goodbye to them that day.
We all hugged and rejoiced at the reunion, a bright spot on an otherwise dark day.
After the initial excitement had faded, for all but Maya because her excitement never faded, Kai put his hands on both mine and Harry's shoulders with an air of seriousness. "We know what you know. And we know how to fix it."
And then, the guy started to laugh. "Oh, you both look so serious!"
Harry and I shared an exasperated look when Kai spoke again. "Just kidding - we do know, and we can help. Got you twice." He found this so much funnier than the rest of us.
"I told you they wouldn't laugh, Kai! This isn't a laughing matter at all!" Maya shook her head with disappointment.
I wasn't even bothered by it. "I missed you both so much," I announced as we headed to the dorms. "And not only because everyone's lost it around here since you left."
"Don't worry, we'll catch you up," Harry promised to the two Motunuans who couldn't resist some good gossip. "But first, tell us everything you know."
How is everyone doing? Readership on my later chapters sucks, but that only means that I value every one of you so much more!
As I said above, my posting schedule is going to be slower as things are sort of busy with work and another story I'm writing, I hope that's alright. I'm going to make the next parts super fast-paced and exciting though, so keep coming back!
This story's wrapping up, (the end is in sight, haha), but a lot needs to be sorted out before then!
Stay tuned :)
